Although the contest started slowly Austin landed several left hand leads which suddenly change the matchup in the third.”My left hook was landing and I was finding my straight left off of my right jab”, Tim said. The fight was stopped, after Coronell was unable to answer the bell for the beginning of the fourth.” It was good coming back and getting the rust off, said Timmy.
According to top trainer Aaron Snowell, Austin’s physical conditioning & all around boxing skills are returning true to championship form. “Timmy is coming along just fine,” he said.
Boxing Manager Carl King is understood to be exploring several options to keep the former world champion busy until he can make a much anticipated title shot. “We will keep Timmy very active over the next few months and then we will let the chips fall as they may,” said King, regarding to a title shot.
The contest was Austin’s second victory in 2005 following a two and one half year layoff. “The Cincinnati Kid” once defended the bantamweight title nine times from 1997-2003.
On September 3, 2005, in his first boxing match, since his losing the his title via eighth-round TKO to Rafael Marquez in February 2003, Austin defeated Reynaldo Hurtado (36-8-1,27 KOs) dropping him three times — in the third round and twice in the fifth — before the contest was stopped.
Rumours have been circulating that Austin will fight at featherweight or perhaps he will drop to super bantamweight as he continues to move into championship contention. Austin, who at 34 might still have enough to win another world championship, continues to train at the Don King training facilities in Orwell, Ohio.
Also the same card, light heavyweight Jaffa Ballogou scored a fourth round KO of Fred Moore, bantamweight Gabriel Elizondo outpointed Alex “Ali” Baba and middleweight Marteze Logan upset Homer Gibbons.
