(Bossier City, LA)— On Friday November 11, 2005, Dana Pitcher Productions, Inc. and Horseshoe Casino & Hotel proudly presented an epic 44 plus round professional fight card aptly entitled Showdown at the Riverdome, at the Horseshoe Riverdome in Bossier City, Louisiana. Louisiana State Boxing Commissioner Buddy Embanato said that “this was the best fight card held in Louisiana in years.”
Showdown at the Riverdome’s main event featured, from the Don King stable, former WBC Super Middleweight Champion Jaffa “African Spice” Ballogou (42-6-0, 37ko’s) in a scheduled ten round light heavyweight battle against NBA light heavyweight champion Fred “Fabulous” Moore (30-5-0, 27ko’s). This contest was cut short by Ballagou’s right hand, as his fourth round knock-out ended Moore’s night pre-maturely.
Perhaps the most exciting fight of the evening was San Antonio’s fast moving Gabriel “Kid Kombo” Elizondo’s (18-1-0, 8ko’s) unanimous decision over WBC International Flyweight Champion Alex “Ali” Baba (21-8-1, 16ko’s) in an eight round bantamweight slug fest. The sold-out Riverdome crowd gave these warriors a five minute standing ovation at the end of this epic battle.
An already great night of boxing was made even better by the work of one of the great young boxers to emerge during recent times, also from the Don King stable, former IBF Bantamweight World Champion “The Cincinnati Kid” Tim Austin (26-1-1, 23ko’s) as he scored a fourth round TKO against veteran Julio “Indio” Caronell (22-21-1, 16ko’s). After sitting out for 2 ½ years due to legal issues the 1992 Olympic Bronze Medallist, Austin did much to re-kindle the idea that he is one of the best pound-for-pound fighter’s in all of boxing.
Also on the card Homer “The Nature Boy” Gibbins (43-12-0, 30ko’s) lost a unanimous decision to Marteze “Too Sweet” Logan. “Handsome” Hector Beltran (8-1-0, 8ko’s) scored a third round TKO against Chris Buford. Rounding out the card Derek Andrews (2-1, 2ko’s) won a unanimous decision against Micki Govan 1-0 in a 4 round light heavyweight contest and Elias “Lazor” Lopez made his debut winning by unanimous decision in a 4 round jr. lightweight battle against Miguel Delgado (2-2, 2ko’s).
There was not an empty seat in the house and all that were in attendance were thrilled by what these modern day gladiators left in the ring. This event will be televised on Comcast-Charter and Cox Communications.
