WBC: Sulaiman, Mexican Boxing Legends To Be Honored

18.11.05 – The Government of the State of Puebla, led by Governor Mario Marin Torres, in association with the World Boxing Council, will celebrate a homage to several immortals of Mexican boxing including Erik Morales, Ruben Olivares, Daniel Zaragoza, Raul “Raton” Macias, Guadalupe Pintor, Miguel Angel Gonzalez, Rafael Herrera, Humberto “Chiquita” Gonzalez, Rodolfo Martinez , Chucho Castillo, and Pedro Flores on November 25 in the city of Puebla, the state capital..

The Governor will inaugurate a modern boxing gymnasium named in honor of WBC President Jose Sulaiman, as well, in recognition by the state for all that President Sulaiman has done for boxing in Mexico and the state. President Sulaiman will join the Governor in the opening of the screen with the gym’s inscription.

President Sulaiman said, “I feel deeply moved by the positive attitude of the state and city government of Puebla, and on behalf of the WBC and all its members around the world, I convey my profound gratitude for this great boxing event and the gymnasium that will carry my name.”

The program organized for that day includes three clinics with lectures given by boxing specialists and in the evening, a boxing card.

The boxing clinics will be very interesting to all boxing people and especially, will benefit boxing in Puebla. They will as follows: judges and referees (performance, minimum, average and maximum experience); medical (directly aimed at the practice of boxing); and the third will be about technique for trainers and seconds.

The clinics will be coordinated by former bantamweight world champion and current President of the Puebla Boxing Commission, Alfredo Meneses .

The boxing event will be staged at the Gymnasium Miguel Hidalgo, which is part of the compound where the new gym will be inaugurated. The bouts will start at 17:00 hours, and conclude approximately at 22:30.

The announced fights will be:

12 rounds, super featherweights – Caribbean Boxing Federation (CABOFE) title – champion Hector “Chocolate” Marquez versus Jorge Torres .

12 rounds, lightweights – Central American Boxing Federation (FECARBOX) title – champion Cesar Soriano versus Juan Sarabia .

4 rounds, bantamweights – Genaro “Poblanito” Garcia versus Rodolfo Martinez. Poblanito is an idol to the fans in Puebla and next he will have the opportunity to fight for the title.
Non-title bout, featherweights – Alberto Garza versus Jose Navarrete.

This gymnasium and the boxing event in general will be the very first one celebrated in the Mexican Republic and hopefully it will be the first of many more held in Mexico, where boxing has been the sport that has given our country many Olympic medals and professional world titles.

All of the great Mexican boxing idols in attendance will receive a diploma in recognition of all their unforgettable achievements in the boxing arenas.
