16.12.05 – By Travis Marks: Fight results from the Lou Dibella promoted Broadway Boxing series held in the Hammerstein Ballroom: Junior Welterweight Dimitry Salita’s hand was raised as the winner by veteran referee Steve Smoger after a tough battle against journeyman Robert Frankel. The scores for this unanimous decision win were 97-92 and 96-93 (twice) all in favor of Salita. From ringside in appeared that Frankel controlled the action and was also credited with a knock down in the first round. This was not one of Salita’s finer performances but nevertheless his record improved to 24-0 (14 KO’s).
Super Middleweight Curtis Stevens stole the show with a devastating first round knockout of Kia Daniels. The end of bout came 44 seconds after the opening bell when Stevens connected to Daniel’s chin with a tremendous left-hook that left Daniels needing medical assistance.. Stevens, one half of the boxing duo known as the chin-checkers was fighting for the first time since his partner Jaidon Codrington suffered a humiliating first round defeat at the hands of super prospect Allan Green. Stevens now sports an impressive record of 10-0 (9 KO’s).
Junior Welterweight Edgar Santana “wowed” the crowd with a sensational knockout of an overmatched Jeremy Stiers. In his previous outing Stiers was able to extend Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. for five rounds; however Santana took no time in dismantling his opponent. He dropped Stiers three times before referee Steve Smoger waived the bout off at 2:59 mark of the first round. With this victory Santana is now 16-2 (11 KO’s).
“Punching” Pat Nwamu earned the NBA Junior Intercontinental Cruiserweight title with a lackluster ten round decision win over journeyman Jamal McKay. Nwamu controlled the action with a flickering jab and the occasional power punch. Scores for the bout were 99-91 (twice) and 98-92 for “Punching Pat.” Pat improved to 11-1 (3 KO’s).
Featherweight Gary “Kid” Stark Jr. entertained the crowd with a stirring eight round unanimous decision with over tough Mexican southpaw Jose Hernandez. After out boxing Hernandez early, Stark seemed interested in trading with Hernandez in the middle rounds to excite the crowd. Stark got the best of the exchanges and also showed a good chin because Hernandez did hit him with some hard shots but with little effect. Stark raised his undefeated record to 13-0 (6KO’s) with the scores of 79-72 and 78-72 (twice).
The opening bout of the evening saw Junior Welterweight Lorenzo Bethea out classing his opponent Rasheen Daniels en route to a unanimous decision win. Bethea is now 5-1 after posting a shut out against Daniels. The scores were 60-53 (twice) and 60-52.
