18.01.06 – By Scoop Malinowski: WBC Light Heavyweight champion Tomasz Adamek (30-0 21 KO’s) is coming to America this week. On January 30th and 31st Jose Sulaiman and the WBC will honor Adamek in Cancun, Mexico as the “WBC Champion Revelation of the Year 2005.”
In a few months Adamek will be moving his wife and two children to America. The Polish born fighter is ready to conquer the world and believes it’s best that he be based in America in order to become the superstar champion he believes he is destined to be.
The unbeaten 29-year-old Adamek is primed and ready to defend his WBC title against anyone – Hopkins, Jones, Tarver, Glen Johnson or any of the other 175 lb. champions – if his promoter Don King still has the mojo to make it happen. In this interview, Adamek lays down the gauntlet as to just who is the best light heavyweight in the world:
Scoop: Congratulations on being named WBC Champion of the Year 2005. Your comments on receiving such a recognition?
Adamek: “That proves I am the best. The WBC choose me to be the best. And I want to fight the best anywhere anyplace. Anywhere in the world I will fight anyone. I am not choosy.”
Scoop: Bernard Hopkins said recently he only wants to fight the best light heavyweight in the world. So that is why he chose Jones and not you (though the proposed Jones-Hopkins rematch has been canceled). Your comment?
Adamek: “I think Hopkins is not looking to fight the best. He’s looking to make the most money. With me he’s a little afraid and he wants to fight for money. He knows he would get beat by me. I’m younger, stronger and I’m the best. I would fight Hopkins or Jones anywhere in the world.”
Scoop: What do you think of the formidability of the other light heavyweight champions Clinton Woods, Zsolt Erdei and Fabrice Tiozzo?
Adamek: I would fight anyone of them anywhere in the world. If Don King makes the fight. It’s three months and I have no fight. I was ready to fight the next day after Ulrich (KO 6 on October 15). Don King can make a deal, I will fight anyone.”
Scoop: How do you feel about unification of all the light heavyweight titles?
Adamek: “I would do it with any of them. As long as Don makes the deal. If Don makes the deal I will fight with anybody anywhere.”
Scoop: Roy Jones – Hopkins rematch is off. How would a fight with Roy Jones and you go, do you think?
Adamek: “I’d love to fight with him. He’s a legend. Jones is a legend. Been a legend his whole career. I would love to fight him.”
Scoop: Not at all worried about running into one of the greatest fighters in boxing history?
Adamek: “I not afraid of any person in the world, only God.”
Scoop: You are very confident. Why are you so?
Adamek: “I know God gives me the strength. That’s why I’m unbeaten.”
Scoop: How would you beat Roy Jones?
Adamek: “I’ve got knockout power with either hand. I’m very strong. I would outstrength Roy Jones.”
Scoop: Obviously you believe you are the best, which one of Erdei, Woods and Tiozzo is the second best light heavyweight champion to you, in your opinion?
Adamek: “I don’t want to say. I don’t want to offend anybody. They’re all very good champions, fighters. I don’t want to say who is second best. If I fight with any of them, I will win.”
Scoop: Is there anything else Tomasz Adamek would like to say to his fans in America?
Adamek: “I want to say hello to all my friends and fans in America. I want to show in America how good I am. So Don has to get me a chance to fight on American TV, which he hasn’t done yet.”
Note: Adamek will schedule a public workout in the New Jersey/New York City area during his upcoming visit here. Keep it tuned to this site for more details.
