15.02.06 – Mexican warrior Humberto Chavez returns to Chicagoland this Friday night, February 17th, as he faces Carlos Cisneros in a special attraction six round welterweight bout, it was announced today by Dominic Pesoli, President of 8 Count Productions, HOME OF THE BEST IN CHICAGO BOXING. The Chavez/Cisneros bout is part of “Heart and Soul”, a terrific evening of professional boxing at Cicero Stadium presented by 8 Count Productions and Bob Arum’s Top Rank Incorporated along with Miller Lite and TCF Bank..
Cicero Stadium is located at 1909 S. Cicero Ave., just outside Chicago and is easily accessible from both the Eisenhower and Stevenson expressways. Tickets, starting at $30, are on sale in advance by calling 312-226-5800.
Chavez, a native of Guadalajara, Mexico, now fighting out of Chicago has fought twice previously in Chicago, battling Rafael Ortiz to an internationally televised eight round draw on September 26, 2003 at the De Paul Athletic Center in front of a sold out 8 Count Productions’ audience of over 3,500 people.
Prior to that fight, one month earlier, Chavez engaged in an outstanding “Fight of the Year” candidate bout against Al “SPEEDY” Gonzales at Chicago’s Park West Theater on June 6, 2003. The off-TV fight is still talked about by Chicago fight fans for its brutality as neither combatant gave an inch, swinging away violently for most of the bout at the center of ring with the undefeated Gonzales winning a close decision.
Since the Ortiz fight, Chavez has won three bouts over Francisco Garcia, David Obregon and Rafael Valenzuela. Most recently he lost a very close decision to undefeated prospect David Torres in Tacoma, WA on December 3, 2005.
Cisneros, a native of San Miguel, El Salvador, now fighting out of Los Angeles, is making his Chicagoland debut. His record includes wins over undefeated prospects George Chavez and Zahami Garcia.
Said Pesoli of the special attraction bout, “Humberto is a real road warrior. He’s fought nothing but solid guys with good records in their hometown. David Torres is a very solid undefeated prospect and he just came very close to beating him in his backyard. Humberto’s other two fights here in Chicago were terrific, the fight against the Rafael Ortiz was the co-main to Jorge Paez’s bout and the packed house at DePaul was on its feet for both guys for the whole fight. People still talk about the night Humberto and SPEEDY went at it, neither one would back down, it was only an eight round fight and neither wanted to stop fighting at the end.”
“I haven’t seen Carlos Cisneros fight, but I’ve heard that he’s another real tough, skilled guy from Los Angeles. He’s got some nice wins over a couple of undefeated prospects and I think he’ll give Humberto a real challenge.” continued Pesoli.
In the main event of the evening former world champion Kevin “The Flushing Flash” Kelley, (57-6-2, 38 KO’s) of Las Vegas, NV will take on perennial world title challenger and former Mexican champion Juan Carlos “Ranchero” Ramirez, (37-8, 16 KO’s) of Ciudad Juarez, Mexico, in a scheduled ten round bout.
The co-main event features Chicago brawler Luciano “El Mohicano”Perez, 12-3-1 (11KO’s) against St. Louis native Steve Vincent, 8-4 (7KO’s) in an eight round welterweight bout
