07.03.06 – Commonwealth Heavyweight Champion Danny Williams heads to Glasgow to replace Scott Harrison on the March 25 show at the Braehead Arena. Harrison, the WBO World Featherweight Champion, was ruled out of his title defence against Joan Guzman yesterday by doctors following a gum infection after a wisdom tooth was removed. Instead, Williams will defend his title in Scotland – the first time he has fought there since a first round knockout of Craig Bowen-Price on the Mike= Tyson-Lou Savarese undercard in June 2000 – against a challenger to be confirmed.
The Brixton puncher has cleaned up the domestic heavyweight scene with recent victories over British champion Matt Skelton and Audley Harrison and is now gunning for a second world title opportunity against the new WBA Champion Nicolay Valuev.
“After beating Skelton I thought that I would be out for a while before a potential fight against Nicolay Valuev fight was made so I was delighted when I got the call to fight in Scotland on March 25,” said Williams.
“I wanted to keep busy to stay off the chocolate bars and cakes so I was straight back in the gym after the Skelton fight and I’m fit and ready to rumble now,”
“I don’t care who is put in front of me on the 25th March but I will knock = them clean out because no one is getting in the way of my second world title shot,”
“I’ve heard of this kid called Ian Millarvie up there but he’s still a baby in heavyweight terms and his handlers wouldn’t want to put him in just yet to get smashed up but if he fancies his chances he knows who to call!”
Olympic Silver Medallist Amir Khan features as special attraction on the card when he returns to Scotland for his seventh professional fight against an opponent to be confirmed.
A new date will be announced shortly for the re-schedule Harrison-Guzman WBO World Featherweight title fight!.
