One In A Million Boxing Donates To Amateur Boxing Club

EVANSVILLE, IN- Jack “Kid” Callahan of Octavius James/One In A Million, Inc., The Midwest’s premiere pro boxing team, in association with Whirlpool Evansville, today announced they will donate a portion of the proceeds from the Mar. 18 “Evansville Explosion,” to be held at The Centre, 715 Locust St., in Evansville, In to the award-winning Evansville Boxing Club for its next amateur boxing show..

Tickets for the action packed “Evansville Explosion” are on sale now, starting at $25. The generous contribution is just one more way One In A Million Inc plans to give something back to the community while helping develop boxing pros, said Callahan.

“We all win when programs like the Evansville Boxing Club help young people become great citizens through good sportsmanship and discipline,” Callahan said.

The local amateur shows are great ways to help young athletes realize their potential and turn years of training into much needed experience, said Richard Hildebrandt, director of the Evansville Boxing Club.

“When you give a young fighter a chance to compete, you help them build their identities as boxers and put into practice everything they’ve been working on,” Hildebrandt said. “And, when you have companies like One In A Million helping out, it makes it much easier to put on these shows.

Local boxing hero Welterweight and Whirlpool worker Kevin Payne 13-5-1 (6 KO’s), who once stopped a purse-snatcher in an Evansville Wal-Mart store, will headline the “Explosion”, as he prepares to face the undefeated Julio Cesar Chavez, Jr. on HBO in an internationally televised bout in late April. And, just added to the card, Henderson’s power puncher Daniel Maldonado, 18-2 (12 KO’s), will continue his path towards boxing’s top tiers.

Also IN.B.A. Lightweight Champion Johnny “Kid One In A Million” Novak, 15-1 (6 KO’s) will defend his title in one of boxing’s most competitive divisions, while undefeated women warriors “Merciless” Mary McGee, 5-0 (3 KO’s) vs. Jill Emery, 4-0 (2 KO’s), put their perfect records on the line. The “Explosion” will also feature Middleweight Derrick “Superman” Findley, 2-1 (2 KO’s) fresh from a nationally televised bout.
