17.03.06 – Former British Heavyweight Champion Matt Skelton makes a quick return to the ring on Saturday 1 April at the York Hall and aims to get back into title contention. The Bedford battler lost his unbeaten record by split decision to Danny Williams last month in a brutal encounter that had many ringside observers divided on who won. Skelton wants to get it on again with Williams to prove to the public and media that he is the best but must first take on Suren Kalachyan over eight-rounds..
“I was back in the gym only a couple of days after my fight against Danny, I was gutted I lost but I feel that the decision went against me rather than me losing the fight,” said Skelton.
“However, that has made me now even more determined than ever to get back in the ring and prove to people that I’m the best out there and I’m delighted that Frank Warren has got me back in action so soon,”
He added, “I’ve had so many people come up to me in the street and saying that they though that I won which is fantastic support to have but I want to prove that they were right by getting it on again with Danny and I believe that I deserve it because it was such a close call,”
“I’m ready whenever Danny wants the rematch.”
Unbeaten Mancunian Stephen Foster Junior headlines the show when he defends his WBU World Featherweight title against Glasgow’s John Simpson.
Chief-support on the card features Welshman Gavin Rees against Coatbridge’s Martin Watson for the Vacant WBU World Lightweight title.
Former WBU World Light-Heavyweight Champion Tony Oakey from Portsmouth makes his return to the ring in an eight-round contest.
