22.03.06 – On Friday, March 31, Thompson Boxing Promotions will feature another electrifying championship night, as two young undefeated combatants will erase each other’s unblemished record into oblivion. Timothy Ray Bradley Jr. will defend his WBC Youth Welterweight title against Eli Addison in an eight-round main event bout dubbed “Dynamite Comes in Small Packages.” This championship duel will headline an all-action five-bout card at the Doubletree Hotel in Ontario.
“Desert Storm” Bradley (11-0, 6 KOs), as his fans know him, will defend his belt for the first time since obtaining it against Francisco Rincon in September 2005. A failed first title defense was supposed to take place last February when two opponents fell ill. Late sub Rafael Ortiz was punished to submission in two rounds of a scheduled ten. Ortiz looked baffled and uncomfortable with Bradley’s power and accuracy. “I was ready for war,” said Bradley after the fight.
Bradley proceeded to open up his training camp in the Colorado Mountains; Bradley now waits for his next adversary. “If they’d let me go fifteen rounds, I would do so. I am old school and it will show against Addison,” said a focused Bradley from his hometown gym in Palm Springs, where he will close his preparation and where he was recently named as Grand Marshall of the Black History Month Parade.
Eli Addison (8-0, 3 KOs) from Winston Salem, NC, has reached this point in astronomical fashion. Addison turned pro in May 26, 2005 defeating experienced Kevin Carter. His toughest test to date was a six-round decision victory over Troy Wilson, who had dismantled prospect Francisco Figueroa.
Addison seems relaxed for his biggest bout, “Bradley will be my stepping stone, I will challenge his ability punch for punch,” said the 18-year-old boxer. “I know I can beat this guy.”
Also on the card will be super featherweight prospect Dominic Salcido (7-0, 4 KOs) who will make his promotional debut after signing a long-term agreement in a six-round special attraction bout. Salcido has not laced the gloves since April 2005 and has been eager to return to the ring. He will face Odilon Rivera (5-7-2, 3 KOs) who is enjoying a run of three straight victories and one draw.
“Dynamite Comes in Small Packages” will also feature Cleotis Pendarvis (4-0, 1 KO) against Ricardo Galindo (2-2, 2 KOs) in what could be a nail biting four-round welterweight fight. Highly regarded amateur super bantamweight Sytel Wilbarn, will make his professional debut against Francisco Rubio (0-1-1), and super flyweight Manuel Roman (6-0-1, 5 KOs) will face an opponent to be named.
Tickets for “Dynamite Comes in Small Packages” are available for purchase at $75, $45 and $30 by calling 714.935.0900 or through www.thompsonboxing.com. The event will take place at the Doubletree Hotel, Ontario. Doors will open at 6:30 pm, first bell 7:30 pm.
