Big boys of the pacific square off

23.03.06 – A great card featuring world rated fighters and exciting prospects looks set to provide plenty of fireworks on April 1 in Auckland, New Zealand. The main even features New Zealand’s world rated cruiserweight Mohamed Azzaoui 14-0-2(6 ko’s), squaring off against Australian hard man Costa Chondros 10-4 (8ko’s)..

Azzaoui, who was born in Algeria, is hoping to launch onto the world stage this year and become a major player in the exciting and talented cruiserweight division. Fighting as a cruiserweight and a heavyweight, Azzaoui has cleaned up the domestic scene with his smooth boxing skills but looks to have his hands full in the big punching Chondros.

The main support will feature another world rated cruiserweight, who may be a future opponent for Azzaoui, in Lawrence Tauasa 21-4-1 (9ko’s), facing off against Fijian Sakeasi “The Bomb” Dakua 23-9-2 (16ko’s).

Tauasa is a New Zealand born, Australian based fighter who has fought from light heavyweight to heavyweight, with silky smooth skills usually seen in a lightweight.

In Dakua, he faces an experienced veteran who will not be worried in the least by Tuasa’s reputation having faced the likes of Sam Soliman, Glen Kelly, Jason Delisle and Paul Murdoch, all world class fighters.

The under-card will feature two of Australia’s up and coming heavyweight prospects in former NBL basketballer John Szigeti and young power puncher Mark de Mori.

Szigeti, 2-0(0’kos), standing at 6’7 and weighing a massive 250 pounds, will be an imposing figure for his New Zealand opponent Sio Vitale, who competes in both K1 and boxing.

De Mori, 7-1-1(6ko’s), is on the comeback trail after time off due to injury, and judging by his recent knockout win on February 24, is looking to make up for lost time with some big knockouts which doesn’t sound promising for his New Zealand opponent Pat Pati Tua.

The big night of boxing will open with local super middleweights Lee Oti 5-2(4 KO’s) and Prince Hamid 1-0(1 ko).
