Danny Williams Gets Dirty

03.05.06 – Commonwealth Heavyweight Champion Danny Williams will prepare for his rematch with Matt Skelton by training with cage fighters. Williams won the first encounter by split decision in February which was a brutal and bloody contest that saw him roughed up and headbutted by Skelton – a former K1 champion. The Brixton puncher has a warm-up fight on Thursday 1 June at the Barnsley Metrodome* before he goes on to tackle Skelton again as chief support to Joe Calzaghe on the big Millennium Stadium show on Saturday 8 July.

“I’m going to be fully prepared this time for all of Skelton’s dirty tricks,” said Williams who ended the comeback of Mike Tyson and the hype over Audley Harrison.

“I believe that the referee did not do his job properly last time so this time I will prepare myself better by bringing in some cage fighting guys to spar with,”

He added, “Skelton fouled me in every round and my trainer Jim McDonnell counted at least 21 illegal moves when he watched the video of the fight again,”

“If it wasn’t a headbutt, hitting low or leaning on top of me over the ropes, he was throwing the right hand and following through with the elbow – a typical K1 move,”

“We’ve got the perfect guy to come in and train with me, he’s a cage fighting champion with unorthodox moves, so this time I will be ready for anything that Skelton brings.”

*Williams features as chief support to Mark Hobson at the Barnsley Metrodome who headlines the show with a defence of his British and Commonwealth Cruiserweight title.

The show will also feature Ryan Rhodes, Paul Smith, Derry Matthews, Kell Brook, James Hare, Rob Burton, Dale Robinson and Tony Quigley.
