10.05.06 – By Gavin Stone: The Anthony Mundine vs Danny Green superfight on May 17 is set to become the largest sporting event staged at Aussie Stadium, with a further 7000 extra tickets to be released as public interest has exceeded promoters predictions for the much anticipated bout. A new record crowd of 50,000 plus is now expected..
Today Mundine and Green held separate press conferences, and in doing so delayed their irrevocable moment of meeting each other for the first time, something they are yet to do; despite 5 years of intense rivalry.
Albeit being his style in previous fights at world class level, Mundine said he would not fight on the outside and expressed no concerns about trading bombs with Green.
“I’m not going to run, you won’t see me run,” said Mundine
“Not if you’re as smooth and silky as me, as a snake,” Mundine mocked.
“He’s going to find it hard to hit me and he’s going to be hit more often than he’s ever been.
“Everyone is talking about his power.
“He’s going to taste a little bit of what I’ve got.”
Mundine- who is trained by Roy Jones Sr- also stated that Green would have difficulties dealing with Mundine ineluctable hand speed.
“You can’t train for speed, man,” he said.
“Very few fighters in the world have got it, like I’ve got it.
“It doesn’t matter if he is sparring Superman or the Six Million Dollar Man.”
“Man make machine, and man is going to break machine.”
The powerful but less flamboyant Green was far less animated, simply remarking that he will let his fists do the talking in 7 days time.
Referee Terry O’Connor will be the third man in the ring next Wednesday nights WBA World Title Eliminator, with Thailand’s Pinit Prayadsab, Korean Michael Lee and Raul Caiz Jr. from the USA confirmed to adjudicate the bout.
