WAR BY THE SHORE is presented by 8 Count Productions, and Oscar De La Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions along with Miller Lite and TCF Bank..
Said Pesoli from his office at JABB Boxing Gym on Wednesday night, “The fighters are all checked in and ready for battle. The open weigh-in is tomorrow night at El Veneno and we’re expecting a huge crowd for this terrific card on Friday night at the Aragon.”
The Aragon Ballroom is located at 1106 W. Lawrence Avenue on the north side of Chicago. Doors for this event will open at 6pm, with the first bell scheduled for 7pm. Tickets starting at $25 are available in advance by calling 312-226-5800.
Headlining the evening is one of boxing’s hottest young prospects Antonio Escalante, 11-1 (7) originally from Juarez, Mexico, now fighting out of El Paso, Texas, battling Juan Ruiz, 21-2 (6) of Santa Clarita, California in a twelve round super bantamweight WBO/NABO title bout. Escalante returns to Chicago following his “Fight of the Year” candidate bout with Jose Hernandez this past January.
The co-main even of the evening is an outstanding eight round super bantamweight matchup between undefeated prospect Abner Mares, 8-0 (5) of Montebello, California and Edison Morillo, 7-2-2 (1) of La Vega, Dominican Republic. Mares is trained by Floyd Mayweather Sr. who has worked with junior middleweight world champion Oscar De La Hoya for the last few years.
In a special attraction bout of the evening, Chicagoland’s most popular women’s fighter, Rita Figueroa, 7-0 (3) is featured in an eight round rematch with Eva Lydia Silva, 4-5 of Ciudad Acuna, Mexico for the WIBA Continental Americas Lightweight Title.
Rounding out the action packed card are three bouts featuring three of Chicagoland’s most popular fighters. In a six round bantamweight bout, Francisco Rodriguez, 7-0 (5), will battle Fidencio Reyes, 9-3-1 (3) of Garland Texas.
Barbaro Zepeda, 5-6 (1) returns to the 8 Count Productions’ ring in an eight round featherweight bout against Juan Jaramillo, 5-3-1 (2) of Keizer, Oregon.
Also making his return to the 8 Count ring is Cicero native, Emanuel Hernandez, 5-2-1 (1) in a four round bout against Daniel Schleinz, 5-8-1 (3) of Duluth Minnesota.
El Veneno, 6651 S. Pulaski in Chicago, will host the weigh-in at 7pm on Thursday night.
