(Press Realase: Jewboy Promotions: Denver, Co, May 20, 2006, By Eric Duran) On Saturday May 27th, Zef Ramierez and Jewboy Promotions return to the flat lands of Rocky Ford, Colorado with a host of present and past fighters from the small town, not to mention, Championship Boxing..
In March, Jewboy Promotions sold out the Arkansas River Valley Fieldhouse in Rocky Ford, with a estimated 900 ruckus fans coming out to see homegrown fighters Marvin and Chantell Cordova, and David Medina. Now, after a sellout show in Junction City, KS in April, Jewboy Promotions is back and ready to show off the talent of Jr. Welterweight prospect and GBU Youth Champ Marvin “Much 2 Much” Cordova Jr, Middleweight prospect and GBU Champ David “Strictly Business” Medina, and rising female prospect and amateur standout, Chantell “One Gorgeous Babe” Cordova. Also on the card, Middleweight Zack Quezada (1-0), Bantamweight Jaime Myers (0-1) and the debut of Welterweight Eduardo “Super Letho” Marquez.
In the Main Event, fast rising Jr. Welterweight prospect Marvin “Much 2 Much” Cordova puts his undefeated record and GBU Youth Title on the line against the durable Julian Romero. Cordova is on the fast track to stardom, having fought 5 times in ’05, ’06 looks to be another busier year for the young fighter. At the ripe age of 21, Cordova will be fighting his first 10 rounder and eighth fight in the past 12 months. In front of him will be Julian Romero (7-42-2) and despite the record, is as tough as they came. Romero is usually brought in for up and coming prospects to see where they stand and is the type of fighter that gives you fits in the ring as he has been in the ring with fighters like Vernon Forrest, Stevie Johnston, Max Gomez, Golden Johnson, Jose Luis Castillo and a slew of up and coming prospects. This fight will be a measuring stick for Cordova, as he looks to land bouts with Chavez Jr, Paez Jr, and Julio Cesar Garcia in the near future. Cordova is ready and is in fantastic shape and he’ll look to send a message to the rest of the Jr. Welterweight prospects with this fight, put up or shut up.
In the Co-main event, David “Strictly Business” Medina (9-1 5ko) looks to defend his newly acquired GBU Middleweight Title against former Title challenger Manny Castillo (13-12-2 5ko). Medina picked up the title with a eight round unanimous decision over Al Salinas on April 15th and since has been working under the watchful eye of Freddie Roach and sparring with Peter Manfredo Jr. Castillo is coming off a 2nd round KO loss to rising prospect James Kirkland not to mention a 8 year haitus from the ring and a 8 fight losing streak. However, to Castillo credit, his 12 losses came against opponets with a combined record of 314-72, including losses to current and former champions Diego Correals, Micky Ward, Ruben Castillo, Ahmed Santos, Mark Suarez, and Juan Carlos Rubio. Castillo also once held the NBA Super Featherweight Title and fought for the WBO NABO Lightweight Title. Castillo will be a huge test for the rising prospect, a stepping stone to bigger fights, a spetacular win could put Medina on the map with fellow Middleweight prospects Pawel Wolak, Rudy Cisneros, and Joey Gilbert
In a special attraction bout, rising female Miniumweight prospect Chantell “One Gorgeous Babe” Cordova (2-0 2ko) looks to continue her winning ways as a professional, turning pro earlier this year after a succesful amateur career that included back to back US National Championships. Cordova will battle 0-3 Camela Parker of Orlando, FL. Despite 3 losses, Parker has never been stopped or put down, giving Valerie Rix all she could handle in their three encounters. Cordova will look to continue her knockout streak and climb to the top of the division that includes Hollie Dunnaway (15-4), Sandra Ortiz (7-3-1), Holly Shores (7-0-1), Melissa Shaffer (8-4) and Yahaira Martinez (6-1). With a smooth victory here, Cordova is also scheduled for a June 30th card in Denver, Co.
In somewhat of a grudge match, local Middleweight Zack Quezada (1-0) will take on boxer/NHB fighter Ryan “The Lion” Peak (1-1 1ko). Quezada debuted in March with a 4 round unanimous decision over trialhorse Tyree Tidwell, pounding on the smaller Tidwell over four rounds. Peak survived a early onslaught in his debut to win by 2nd round TKO, but was blizted in his second outing against Grady Brimas in April, losing by 1st round knockout. Peak also sports a 1-1 record as a NHB fighter. Quezada and Peak should be an entertaining fight as both fighters will look to throw stragey out the window in exchange for toe to toe brawling, mano e mano style. I’ll be surprised if this fight goes to the cards.
Also Slated for the card is female Bantemweight Jaime ” Doodle Bug” Myers (0-1) of Kingman, AZ against debuter Salina Jordan. Myers lost a 4 round unanimous decision to Angel James in April. She showed guts and determination fighting off fatigue to finish the fight, as she burned herself out trying to put away a tired James in the thrid round. Myers will be looking for her first professional victory.
And last but not least, local toughman Eduardo ” Super Letho” Marquez will debut against street tough Joe Lopez in a four round welterweight bout.
Look for another sellout crowd and exciting, fast paced action as Zef Ramierez and Jewboy Promotions continue to build the careers of their young fighters and continue to gives the fans what they pay for. Also, remember the names of Marvin and Chantell Cordova, and David Medina, as they one day could be Champions in their respected divisions, One.
