Freddie Cuevas Angered at John Duddy’s Plans for HBO Bout Aug. 5

09.06.06 – “He’s in for a big surprise on Saturday night” said Chicago middleweight “Classy” Freddie Cuevas as he read the report on Boxingtalk.com about John Duddy’s plan to face Giovanni Lorenzo on August 5th on HBO. “I’ve had a great camp, been at 160 for a week now and am more than ready to crack this kid, especially when I hear that him and his people are looking past me. It’s interesting to read this but it just goes to show how little they think of me” said a visibly upset Cuevas..

Said Dominic Pesoli, President of 8 Count Productions, promoter of Cuevas for the last eight years, “Freddie’s a real warrior and a very proud man. He’s accomplished a great deal in his career and anyone getting in the ring with him at this point needs to be prepared for a real battle.”

“He’s had a great camp over the last eight weeks at our place (JABB Boxing Gym) and I know how much this fight means to him in front of a huge crowd at Madison Square Garden.”

In closing Pesoli said, “Freddie’s built up a huge fan base here in Chicago and many people have made the trek to New York City this week and many more will be tuning in to the pay per view.”

Cuevas’s eleven year career is highlighted by an outstanding knockout of perennial world title challenger Wilfredo Rivera in the seventh round of their battle in July of 2002. The fight broadcast internationally on Telemundo from the DePaul Athletic Center earned Cuevas the junior middleweight USBO belt. After the brutal knockout Rivera did not return to the ring for three years.

The Cuevas/Duddy fight is scheduled for ten rounds for the WBC Continental Americas Middleweight Title. It will be the fourth televised fight of the Pay Per View leading into the main event of Miguel Cotto vs Paulie Malignaggi for the WBO Super Lightweight Title with a start time of 9pm EST, 8pm CST.

8 Count Productions was started by Dominic Pesoli in 1997 and has consistently presented the highest quality professional boxing events in Chicagoland. In 2003, Pesoli along with former featherweight contender Mike Garcia opened JABB Boxing Gym, a 6,000 square foot venue dedicated to the finest Chicagoland boxers of all talent levels.
