“What Jimmy does in the ring is important to all of us, and what he does for a living, working as a teacher, means a lot to our community, so people really want to come out and support him and the work he does,” Myers said. “He’s given us a lot to be proud of.”
Myers also said his IGA store will sponsor a cook-out for fans, and everyone will be welcomed to food and refreshments.
In the rough-and-tumble sport of boxing, that kind of hometown support is a tremendous boost for a professional fighter, especially one preparing the fight of his career, said Octavius James, CEO of One In A Million Inc.
“There’s no doubt in anyone’s mind that Jimmy is a good fighter and champion, and he’ll need all of his skill and experience when he faces Wellby,” James said. “That kind of support is also excellent for the rest of our fighters, knowing they’ll have sports fans everywhere rooting for them.”
