MEMPHIS, TN – ESPN2 Friday Night Fights returns to Memphis, TN for an unprecedented night of boxing at FedExForum as Northeast Promotions and Prize Fight Boxing bring “Night of Champions” on August 4th. The seven bout card will feature two of the brightest prospects in boxing today – Delvin Rodriguez (19-1-1, 11 KO) and Anthony Peterson (18-0,13 KO)..
Rodriguez, the reigning USBA Welterweight Champion, takes on perennial contender Gilberto Reyes (18-4-1,11 KO) in the ten round main event. Rodriguez has been featured multiple times on ESPN and has earned a reputation as an action packed fighter for his ability to with stand punishment and battle back for the win. Reyes will mark Rodriguez’s stiffest opposition yet and is sure to make this bout an unforgettable one.
Peterson, who just last month won the NABO Lightweight title on ESPN2, will go up against Topeka (KS)-based knockout artist Marc Thompson 15-1 (12 KO’s) in an 8 round co-feature bout. Peterson also has been featured on ESPN multiple times as he ascends the world rankings. Expect plenty of fireworks between boxer/puncher Peterson and slugger Thompson.
Not to be over shadowed on this phenomenal card is the return of eight-time world Champion and self-proclaimed “Baddest Female On The Planet” Ann Wolfe (23-1, 16 KO’s) from Austin, TX. Wolfe will be pitted against the world ranked Lisa Ested (10-4, 5 KO) from Richmond, VA.
Wolfe, who has consistently pursued a fight with Laila Ali, plans to use this fight as a statement, and for the world to demand that Ali accept her challenge and settle their rivalry once and for all.
Also on the card is former two-time world featherweight champion Freddie Norwood (39-1-1, (22 KO) from St. Louis, MO. Norwood, making his second appearance since announcing his comeback, will battle the tough nosed Anthony Martinez from Costa Rica in an 8 round super featherweight bout.
All told there will be 12 titles in the house on August 4th.
