Enzo Maccarinelli Up For Kilvey Hill Test

04.08.06 – WBO Interim World Cruiserweight Champion Enzo Maccarinelli will challenge for another title this Sunday (6 August) – The Kilvey Cement Run title. Fresh off a stunning KO win over Marcelo Dominguez at the Millennium Stadium last month, Maccarinelli will now get stuck into the grueling endurance test which involves running up the steep Kilvey Hill in Boneymaen with a 50-kilo bag of cement strapped to his back..

Big Mac set a blistering record of 11 minutes 36 seconds in his first attempt at the event six years and this year aims to break it and raise plenty of money for a special baby care unit at the Singleton Hospital.

The Kilvey Cement Run is held in honour of its founder, the late amateur boxer Nigel Page. Nigel’s daughter Kirsty Page was the inspiration behind the charity event when she suffered complications during her birth at Singleton Hospital 17 years ago.

Maccarinelli said, “I reckon competing in the this makes 12 rounds of boxing a doddle!”

“I can’t wait, it’s just like the build up to a big world title fight and I’m feeling the pre-fight buzz now as the day gets closer,”

“The training I’ve put into this event is probably harder than what I put into a title fight,”

Macca faces stiff competition from his close friend and amateur boxer Chrissie Ware who came close to beating the record last year and the friendly rivalry has motivated him to win again.

He added, “I might not have competed in the event for the last six years but my record has stood the test of time event though Chrissie came quite close last year,”

“I’m looking forward to doing battle against Chrissie, it’s all good natured fun but it is very competitive and at the end of the day the aim is to raise as much money as possible for the Singleton Hospital.”

This year’s event will leave from the Bonymaen Inn in Bonymaen at 1pm on Sunday.
