14.08.06 – Keith Terceira: Swirling rumors surrounding the next scheduled fight for IBF light welterweight champion Juan Urango has forced Coalition Boxing (Urango Management Team) to publicly answer some questions concerning whether the next opponent will be Hatton or a Golden Boy fighter. Luis Navarro, head of Coalition spent some time with me today and made the following statement..
“It has come to my attention that many boxing fans are speculating that Lazcano or another Golden Boy boxer may be Urango’s next title defense. To set the record straight Coalition Boxing and Juan Urango have no intentions to fight Lazcano or a Golden Boy fighter in the immediate future. No deal has been reached or is one in the works. We are currently gearing up for a defining bout. This fight of a lifetime has already been signed and a tentative date and venue has been scheduled”
Navarro confirmed that the fight of a lifetime he mentions is Ricky Hatton and that the deal is signed and sealed. The bout will happen in Atlanta on December 8th.
“There are no plans to fight any fighter from Golden Boy, the only one we would consider fighting would be Mr. Golden Boy himself. We have had informal discussions with Golden Boy but we have had discussions with 20 people in the 140-147 range including Floyd Mayweather and decided on Ricky Hatton. Urango is young and he is in great shape and will be making his mark before the end of the year. We have had a signed contract to fight Ricky Hatton now for a few weeks. “
Coalition Boxing based in Miami has been focusing on Urango as well as on a stable that will feature 135-147 pound fighters and currently has a working relationship with prospect Richard Abril (5-0 1ko) and co-management interest with John Wesley Jackson (6-0, 6ko’s).
“We are searching for fighters to assist in the lightweight to welterweight range and are actively recruiting Mexican fighters who have reached a level or 10-0 or so that need expert management, with our current crop of fighters we can offer some opportunities that others cannot.” Navarro stated.
