FAIRFAX, VA (August 16, 2006) – Leading Northern Virginia’s recent boxing revival, popular local junior middleweight JIMMY LANGE (26-3-1, 18 KOs) returns to action Saturday, October 7, 2006 at George Mason University’s Patriot Center in Fairfax, VA. Lange will battle Tommy Wilt (20-5), a veteran of over 300 amateur fights and a 5 time Pennsylvania state champion.
Lange, who headlined the Patriot Center’s first two successful professional boxing shows drawing more than 5,000 enthusiastic fans, will be showcased in the Main Event of the six-bout card being promoted by Major League Boxing in association with Guzman Entertainment. Doors will open at 6:00 pm, with the first fight set for 8:00 pm.
Tickets, ranging from $500 (VIP Ringside) to $25, go on sale at 10:00 am on Thursday, August 17 at all Ticketmaster outlets, including the Patriot Center box office.
Lange is looking to rebound from a disappointing third-round loss suffered this past February to Joey Gilbert, his rival on the NBC hit reality show “The Contender.” The Great Falls, VA native is intent on proving that the loss was a fluke.
“Despite the setback in my last fight, my main goal remains achieving and unifying a world title belt,” said Lange, who is managed by his father, Johnny, and is trained by former world champion Buddy McGirt. “Getting back in the ring this October is long overdue and I’ve been training very hard in preparation for the fight. I hope to give my fans from all over the Washington, D.C. region, as well across the country, a good performance.”
Lange’s opponent is the heavily-decorated and highly-skilled Wilt of Altoona, PA, who has captured five Pennsylvania State Championships and won his last two fights.
“I want to prove myself against a top contender and tough opponent like Jimmy Lange,” said Wilt. “This may be Jimmy’s hometown, but I’m coming to his back yard with every intention of going toe-to-toe and beating him.”
Wilt and Lange share one common opponent in Baltimore’s Charles Clark, whom they both defeated by unanimous decision earlier in their careers (Lange in eight rounds in 2003; Wilt in six rounds in 2004).
A dynamic mix of top regional boxers is being assembled to compete on the exciting undercard. Scheduled to fight are Washington, D.C. super middleweight PURCELL “HARD ROCK” MILLER (22-4-1, 18 KOs), light welterweight DORIN SPIVEY (34-4, 28 KOs) of Portsmouth, VA, Leesburg, VA middleweight PERRY BALLARD (18-1, 14 KOs), George Mason University graduate/middleweight “MONEY” MIKE SAWYER (2-1, 2 KOs) of Falls Church, VA, Front Royal, VA, welterweight ANDREW FARMER (2-0, 2 KOs) and local heavyweight RAY GRANT (1-0, 1 KO).
Tickets, priced at $500 (VIP Ringside), $350 (Ringside), $250, $150, $100, $75, $50 and $25, will be available for purchase through all Ticketmaster outlets, including the Patriot Center box office, online at www.ticketmaster.com or via Phonecharge at 703-573-SEAT, 202-397-SEAT or 410-547-SEAT.
