Kings Hall Line-Up Announced: Scott Lawton Tops The Bill

08.09.06 – Impact Boxing have today announced that they will present a seven fight card on their 4th show at Stoke’s Kings Hall to be held on 30th September. Cellarhead’s English lightweight champion Scott Lawton will again top the bill against the Mauritius light-welterweight Judex Meemea in an eight round contest. Billed as a light-welterweight Meemea will be heavier than Lawton and at 6’ he is taller representing an unusual challenge for the 5’10” lightweight..

Lawton said: “He is reported to be strong and because he is taller I will lose my height and reach advantage so I am expecting a tough fight but that’s just what I need at the moment.”

Two other members of Potteries based Team Impact will also take to the ring on the evening; the popular welterweight Jimmy ‘The Whirlwind’ Doherty will contest a six round bout against Chris Brophy from South Wales and former British Masters Title holder Chris Edwards will go four rounds against Derby debutant Usman Ahmed in a flyweight contest.

For the first time Impact Boxing are promoting boxers from other stables on their Kings Hall card. Central Area and British Masters super-bantamweight Champion Gary Davis will join his stablemate Aaron Thomas who will make his debut at welterweight. Davis from Liverpool and Thomas from Alsager are both managed by West Country promoter Chris Sanigar. Thomas has been matched with Martin Sweeny of Darwin and Davis is waiting for his opponent to be confirmed.

Newark’s former super-featherweight Carl Greaves begins his management career when his protégé Andrew Lowe takes on fellow debutant, the Barnsley based, John Musgrove at welterweight.

Alfreton super-middleweight Aidie Whitmore, managed by Derby’s Mick Shinfield, completes the line-up when he meets the tough Slovakian Richard Turba. Whitmore has won both his previous contests and Turba has won three of his five bouts to date and has only lost to good opposition, the duel therefore promises to be intriguing one.

Mick Carney of Impact Boxing is delighted with the line-up and said:

“With seven bouts this is the biggest event that we have staged to date and I predict that it will be the most exciting yet since I am expecting fireworks from a number of the lads on the bill. I am also pleased to be hosting two worthy champions, Scott Lawton is obviously the jewel in Impact’s crown at the moment but I am delighted that he is being joined by another deserving champion in Gary Davis.”

“This is also the first time that we have promoted fighters from other camps and with three management teams, in addition to Impact, being represented I think it demonstrates the growing reputation of our Kings Hall shows nationally. I think we are now well on the way to living up to our promise to put Stoke-on-Trent on the map for boxing.”

“We are hoping for another sell-out crowd and fully expect a fantastic atmosphere on the evening and, as a result, we are now planning another show for November. In the meantime we are looking forward to Gary Reid’s English title bout against Nigel Wright and to signing more new pro’s in the near future. All-in-all I have to say that things are pretty exciting all round for Impact Boxing at the moment.”
