10.09.06 – By Vanessa McConnell, Photo by Marcelles “Quenton” Brown: For the past week or so Mike Tyson has been holding a training camp to prepare for an upcoming exhibition fight. He has been at the Aladdin Casino and it’s hasn’t been much of a secret. Since the famous biting of Holyfield’s ear, things have never been the same in Vegas for the former champ. And once he got the famous tattoo on his face he has never been looked at the same. When he started raising and flying Roller Pigeons the world thought he had really lost his mind. Now birds are flying and rolling around the world thanks to Mike.
Last week there was a huge bug about Tyson hosting a “freak show” at the Aladdin. The bashing was more than expected; since this was the town he lost his boxing license in. Some would have the public believe that Tyson is washed up and every time he is seen in public considered a freak, but the same people are beating down doors to get a glimpse, exclusive or close up of the so-called “freak.”
Some of the same hecklers were more than boastful and proud when they had a seat near him and his two beautiful eye candy babes at the Mary J Blige concert at the MGM Grand last weekend. It was more like, “Hi Mike” and “we were sitting next to Mike Tyson” over cell phones and in between groupie shots with him. Vegas is full of $3 bills..
Mike has been busy commentating for the Chinese boxing market, where he is accepted and loved by millions. For some reason Tyson loves Vegas, too bad he can’t get the same love in return. Everybody has their flaws, but his status as one of the pound for pound knock out kings in the world came to a bitter sweet end once the media was through with him. And by the looks of the local press, they are far from done with rubbing his every mistake in his face. Some people are worth forgiving and second chances, but it appears some people feel that way about everybody ‘except’ Mike Tyson.
Seminole Warriors Boxing’s Finest featured on Friday the 13th
Friday, October 13th Seminole Warriors Boxing is promising one of the most exciting, hard knocking fights of the year at the Seminole Hard Rock Live Arena in Hollywood, Florida. The main event featuring Miami’s Randall Bailey (35-5, 30 KOs) and Cesar Bazan (45-8-1, 29 KOs) from Mexico City in a twelve round bout for the IBA Intercontinental Title televised live on TV Azteca at 9pm ET/6pm PT. Also featured on the fight card are Samuel Miller (15-0, 12 KOs), the mighty Puerto Rican Jesus Pabon (7-0, 5 KOs) and Costa Rican heavyweight sensation Carl Drumond (15-0, 14 KOs).
“If you get up from your seat, either at the arena or at home in front of your television set, you may miss some of boxing’s biggest punchers doing what they do best,” Seminole Warriors Boxing statement released. Randall Bailey is considered one of boxing’s hardest punchers, pound for pound as the former world junior welterweight champion. Defeating Miguel Cotto in 2004 was another huge boost for Bailey in his quest to the top of his class with five straight wins in a row, with three coming by way of knockouts. Defeating Bazan on Oct. 13 may put him in a position for a world title shot in 2007.
Cesar Bazan has six out of eight wins coming into the Oct. 13 battle and is determined to regain his status he once held as the WBC Lightweight World Champion in 1998-1999. Secure in his ability to take on another championship, he is even more anxious than Bailey to get back in to the running for the world title and be back with the likes of Jose Luis Castillo, Miguel Cotto and Stevie Johnston again.
Samuel Miller is rapidly making a name for himself, and in the coming months the native of Arboletes hopes to join his world-class stable-mates at the top of the boxing world. Fresh off an exciting eight round win over Jason Naugler in July, Miller continues to show improvement with each successive fight as he move up the ranks. Junior Welterweight Jesus Pabon and Carl Drumon are also scheduled to see action on Friday the 13 th. Both of their components are yet to be announced. Abraham vs Miranda rescheduled for Sept. 23 in Germany
By Marcelles “Quenton” Brown
The upcoming IBF Middleweight World Title fight between Edison Miranda and Arthur Abraham was previously scheduled for Saturday, August 26 th at the EWE Arena in Oldenburg, Germany, but was postponed to Sept. 23 because Abraham came down with the flu just before the bout. The fight is going to be held at the Rittal Arena in Wetzlar, Germany.
“We are extremely excited that the fight has been rescheduled,” said Leon Margules, Executive Director of Seminole Warriors Boxing, Miranda’s promotional company. “We are looking forward to bringing the IBF Middleweight World Title belt home where it belongs and we hope that Abraham doesn’t catch cold feet again.” Abraham is defending his IBF Middleweight Title against Miranda and is taking every measure to prepare him to fight, even if it means putting it off for a little while.
Team Pantera was more than confident that Miranda would be crowned the new middleweight king before Abraham suddenly announced his withdrawal from the Aug. 26 fight. Now they are even more confident that Miranda will reign on high as the middleweight champ. “I can’t wait to get in the ring with him and give him a taste of my power,” said Miranda. “If he things he was sick the first fight, just wait until Sept. 23, I will be ready and I hope he will be too.”
When Abraham first announced his withdrawal, Miranda was livid. “I’m disappointed, but I will take my disappointment out on Abraham when he’s well enough to step into the ring with me,” said Miranda. “I know in my heart that he has cold feet and I won’t be denied of this World Championship. This is my time to shine!”
“This is just prolonging the inevitable,” said Margules. “Edison was ready to go for this fight, and he’ll be ready to go for whatever date that the fight is rescheduled on and he will return home with Abraham’s world title belt.” It’s going down Sept. 23 and it will be official who the champ will be. Will Abraham hold on to his title or will Miranda bring it home? For more information on the upcoming world title fight coming up this month in Germany visit www.warriorsboxing.com .
Juarez vs Barrera Rematch
By Marcelles “Quenton” Brown
This must be the year to set the record straight. More fighters have stepped into the ring to settle a past score; it’s getting hard to keep track of it all. It’s been brutal and it’s been sweet, some champions and sore losers, but it’s all been pure pandemonium. Who doesn’t love a great rematch scorecard? We thought we seen it all with Ibragimov and Sultan or Mosley and Vargas, but Barerra vs Juarez takes the cake. It’s not the end of rematch cards, later this season Top Rank and Wynn Las Vegas will be presenting the rematch between Manny Pacquiao and Erik Morales. Other than the average rematch this will be their third time fighting and it all is going down Nov. 18 live on HBO PPV.
Oscar De La Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions and Main Events is preparing another rematch bout that is sure to keep you glued to your seats or television sets. Sept. 16 WBC Super Featherweight Champion Marco Antonio Barerra (62-4, 42 KOs) and 2000 Olympic Silver Medalist Rocky Juarez (25-2, 18 KOs) will go head to head in “Too Close To Call,” the rematch bout with a night full of hard-hitting action.
The “Too Close To Call” fight card is going down at the MGM Grand Garden Arena and will be telecast on pay-per-view beginning at 9pm ET/6pm PT on Sept. 16. Tickets are on sale from $75 to $350 and $44.95 is suggested retail price for HBO Pay-Per-View. For more information or tickets to Barerra vs Juarez II “Too Close To Call” visit www.ticketmaster.com .
