Impact Boxers Ready to Rumble Again

17.10.06 – Hot on the heels of a sell-out show at Stoke’s Kings Hall at the end of September Impact Boxing today announced that their next event will be held at the same venue on 24th November. This, the fifth event promoted by Impact Boxing, takes place just over one year since their first show at the Kings Hall during which time professional boxing has been elevated to new heights in Stoke-on-Trent.

The last twelve months has witnessed Scott Lawton become English champion in the lightweight division and confirm his credentials as a potential British Champion and Gary Reid secure a mandatory challenge for the English light-welterweight belt and turn down a Commonwealth title opportunity. A growing crop of hot young prospects have also emerged from the Impact stable over the last year, most notably Jimmy ‘The Whirlwind’ Doherty and Danny Johnston both of whom look set to challenge for honours in the near future.

Impact’s Jimmy Doherty, the popular Aaron Thomas and Newark’s Andrew Lowe will all feature on the six-fight card and subject to satisfactory medicals Danny Johnston should also make a welcome return. Impact Boxing are also working hard to put on a fourth contest between flyweights Chris Edwards and Delroy Spencer, this time for the Midlands Area title. To date, with one win each and a draw, honours are even between the two diminutive pugilists.

Doherty, who last time out improved his record to four straight wins with an impressive victory over last minute replacement Aldon Stewart, said:

“Its great to be getting back into the ring again so soon, I haven’t had two fights so closely together since I left the amateurs. Like most of the lads, I’ve only been out of the gym for a few days since our last show and our training regime has been stepped up significantly recently so I expect to be stronger than ever in November. I think I need a few more fights but I hope to be fighting for a Midlands title before too long.”

Scott Lawton, who was last week honoured by Stoke’s Lord Mayor, will once again feature prominently on the bill in what is likely to be his last bout until he makes a mandatory defence of his English title against Dean Hickman before the end of February next year. An opponent for Lawton is yet to be confirmed.

“November promises to be an exciting month for Team Impact,” said Karl Stubbs of Impact Boxing, “Gary Reid is travelling to Glasgow on the fourth to take on Nigel Wright for the English title and we expect another sell-out show at the Kings Hall on the 24th and the ticket-line has been busy ever since with enquiries about our next promotion. We probably could have sold another 500 tickets last time and unfortunately we had to disappoint a lot of people, I can only suggest that fans make sure they get their tickets early this time.”
