British Boxing: Edwards’ Title Clash Confirmed

08.11.06 – The British Boxing Board of Control today agreed that the ten round flyweight bout between Stoke’s Chris Edwards and Huddersfield’s Dale Robinson scheduled for the Kings Hall on the 24th of this month will be for the English title. Edwards now becomes the third fighter managed by Impact Boxing to contest English honours this year. The contest will also now be the most significant professional bout to have taken place in the Potteries to date..

The ‘Board’ also confirmed that Impact Boxing would stage Scott Lawton’s mandatory defence of his English lightweight title against Dean Hickman of West Bromwich. Impact Boxing agreed terms with West Midlands promoters PJ Promotions to put the contest on and the ‘Board’ were happy to sanction the bout. The contest will take place on 2nd February 2007 but the venue has yet to be announced.

“Its only a year since our first event at the Kings Hall and we’ve been promising that we would bring championship boxing to Stoke,” said Impact Boxing spokesman Karl Stubbs “now we’ve proven good to our word and have secured two English title fights for the city’s boxing fans. We have already staged a number of sell-out shows and demand for the November show suggests that we will sell this one out well in advance so fans should get their tickets early in order to avoid disappointment.”

“Dale Robinson is a tough opponent and will go into the bout as favourite but Chrissy Edwards is supremely fit and we will have him well prepared; there is every chance of him causing an upset and claiming the title. Scott has another opponent to deal with on the 24th so any discussion of Dean Hickman now would be premature. I will say however, that Scott is the perfect pro and will be ready to take on any opponent that he is presented with.”

“The show on the 24th promises to be another thrilling evening, in addition to Chris and Scott, Danny Johnston, Jimmy Doherty, Aaron Thomas and Andrew Alan Lowe will all be appearing, all of whom have the potential to create some explosive performances.”
