Supercanal Caribe Makes Deal With Jay Boxing To Televise Guzman Bout

SANTO DOMINGO –Calling all Dominicans and calling boxing fans in general.´Undefeated WBO junior lightweight champion Joan Guzman’s Monday, December 18, title defense against #5 contender Antonio “TRex” Davis wil be seen live on many major cable operators in the United States. The scheduled 12-round world championship, which will come live and direct from the Sports Palace in the Dominican capital city, will also be seen live in Haiti, the British Virgin Islands, Venezuela and Puerto Rico..

An exciting broadcast deal was made and announced late Friday night by Jose Nunez of Jay Boxing Promotions and Lic. Marcos A. Jorge, executive vice president of the popular and fast growing Spanish language cable network, Supercanal Caribe.

“We are really delighted that Mr. Jorge and his dynamic network have come aboard as Guzman makes his holiday homecoming ring performance in his homeland. The American challenger, Davis, is a real talent with a 20-2 record and he has vowed to score an upset. But Guzman vows that he will dazzle Davis, the live crowd and TV viewers in the Dominican Republic and all around the world,” Nunez said.

“As a Dominican who lives in New York, I know how wildly popular Supercanal Caribe is because I watch it all the time in Brooklyn and Queens and so do my family members. Their programming is really excellent and both Guzman are I thrilled that many fans in New York, Boston, New Jersey, Miami-Fort Lauderdale and throughout Maine and Connecticut will get to see this main event live.”

Jorge said that he is also excited about showcasing Guzman’s talents. The champ has a 26-0 record with 17 knockouts and is being mentioned as a likely foe in 2007 for Manny Pacquaio, Marco Antonio Barrera and Juan Manuel Marquez.

“This is a great situation for us,” Jorge said. “Guzman is one of the best fighters in the world and I know that so many of the people who watched his prior two bouts on HBO will be tuning in to Supercanal Caribe on Monday night for a great boxing match. Among the major cable providers who carry Supercanal Caribe are Comcast (Channel 704) in many areas of Maine, New Hampshire and Massachusetts.

Time Warner (Channel 809) carries the network in all five boroughs of New York City and in many cities and towns in North Jersey. Cablevision (Channel 211) carries it in four boroughs of New York and also in Newark, Union City, Hoboken and Paterson in North Jersey.

For South Florida, the network is carried on Comast (Channel 620) which includes Hialeah, Miami and in Fort Lauderdale and other parts of Broward County. For Puerto Rico, the Guzman-Davis title bout can be seen on One Link (Channel 140). In the Greater Caracas area, it’s on Cablevision (Channel 16).
