22.01.07 – Impact Boxing today confirmed that a date had been set for the rematch between Stoke’s Chris Edwards and Huddersfield’s Dale Robinson who will challenge for the British flyweight title. The bout will take place on April 13th at Altringham Leisure Centre. The pair last met in November at Stoke’s Kings Hall when they contested the vacant English flyweight title. Despite entering the contest as a firm favourite last time, Dale Robinson suffered only his third career defeat at the hands of the busier Edwards.. Edwards also inflicted Robinson’s first defeat within the distance by stopping the more fancied fighter in the eighth round.
Many observers felt that Robinson looked somewhat ‘under-cooked’ at their previous meeting and that perhaps the Robinson camp had underestimated Edwards and not prepared properly. As a consequence of suffering such a shock it is unlikely that the same mistake will be made again; Robinson’s record therefore entitles him to enter the ring for the 12 rounder as favourite once more.
With 19 wins (9 by KO) 1 draw and only 3 losses for Robinson compared to Edwards’ 10 wins (3 KO) 2 draws and 12 defeats the Huddersfield man looks, on paper at least, to be the more accomplished boxer. Edwards’ record has been improving lately and, with Robinson as his most notable scalp to date, appears to be the man in form. Consequently the result is difficult to predict therefore but with both men being highly motivated this time both paying fans and TV viewers should be in for a real treat.
“I think Dale Robinson will be up for it more this time” said Edwards, “but so will I. I will be training harder than ever for this one. I’ve been waiting a long time for a shot at the British title for a long time and it’s the pinnacle of my career so I’m not going to take it lightly.”
“I have a lot of respect for Dale and he gave me a tough fight last time so I expect even more from him in April. I will make him work hard as well and I am quietly confident that I can beat him again. I won’t be such a shock this time though!”
The fight is being organised by Manchester based promoters VIP Promotions and ticketing arrangements will be announced shortly. Meanwhile Impact Boxing confirmed that their 24th February event would comprise a seven-fight card. Tickets for the event are available by contacting: 0845 156 7168
