03.03.07 – By Jim McManus: Edison Miranda, (28-1, 24 KO’s), dominated a mostly reluctant Allan Green (23-1, 16 KO’s) tonight, knocking him down twice in the 10th round, en route to a 10-round unanimous decision at the Coliseo Roberto Clemente, in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Miranda controlled the action in the first half of the fight, constantly pursuing Green, who spent much of the time either running or jabbing defensively. On occasion, Miranda would trap Green and land huge shots, which made Green all the more determined to continue running, possibly afraid of getting stopped if he were to try and trade punches with Miranda. However, in the eighth round, Green suddenly stopped running and surprised Miranda with a huge left hand that knocked Miranda down..
The punch did little to stop Miranda’s momentum, though, as he once again continued tagging Green with huge punches, hurting him in the 9th round with a big right hand. In the 10th round, Miranda went all out, storming after Green and landing monstrous shots that send Green down twice and badly hurting him. However, Green was able to make it to the end of the fight, barely, all the while taking tremendous punishment. The final scores were: 97-90, 96-91, 96-91.
If the fight had gone another 10-30 seconds, the referee would have likely have stopped the fight due to the punishment Miranda was inflicting on Green, who was unable to protect himself. All in all, it was painful to watch for the most part because of Green’s constant running. In fact, if it wasn’t for Miranda, there would have been no fight, since he was doing all the work. At some point, Green needed to make a stand and decide to fight, but it seems each time he tried, he would get hit with a big right from Miranda that would shake his confidence.
