05.05.07 – By John Martinez, Boxingrealm.com: Last night at the Palms Casino in Las Vegas Dominick Guinn lost to Eddie Chambers in a heavyweight match up that pitted an up and comer against one trying rekindle earlier flashes of glory. The fight was broadcast on Showtime’s “The Next Generation.” Guinn, who is now 28-4, lost on all three judges scorecards even one judge giving all 10 rounds to an undefeated Chambers who’s now recorded a total of 28 wins. The other two judges had it 97-93 each..
Many in attendance including press row and the audience think the fight should have been scored closer but that Eddie did enough to win, although not enough to impress boxing enthusiasts.
After the fight Chambers acknowledged this observation, “I should have been a lot faster and a lot better” he said. “ I could have been busier and thrown more combinations”.
About Dominick Guinn’s performance he said, “ You have to give Guinn a lot of credit. He is a tough guy. This is a great win for me, but I am not totally satisfied”.
Neither were the ones in attendance as they booed the judge’s scores as they were being read out.
Guinn was getting off his jab early and doing what he needed to give Chambers something to think about however as he has been known to do and what he has been criticized for in the past, Guinn started to become inactive as the fight were on.
The 10th round was where Guinn finally started to make something happen but it was too late. Yet Guinn thought he had done enough. “ I definitely think I proved that I could still fight,” he said. “I don’t know what the fight the judge that gave him all 10 rounds was watching. But I guess when you fight one of the promoters fighters, you have to knock him out to win.”
