Stevie Johnston training in Colorado Springs

LAS VEGAS (May 9, 2007) – IBA World lightweight champion Stevie “Lil’ But Bad” Johnston has been training in Colorado Springs since May 1 to re-acclimate himself to the area’s high altitude for his May 18th title defense against WBC Latino & WBA FEDEBOL super featherweight champion Humberto “El Fuerte” Toledo in the 12-round main event, headlining “Rocky Mountain Mayhem: Return of the Champ,” at the Broomfield Event Center in Broomfield, Colorado..

“Rocky Mountain Mayhem: Return of the Champ” is presented by Silverhawk Championship Boxing, sponsored in part by The Courtyard by the Marriott Boulder/Louisville.

“I’m feeling good,” Denver-native Johnson (40-4-1, 18 KOs), now living in Vero Beach (FL), reported from training camp. “I’m getting used to the altitude. I feel the difference already. I’m strictly focused on training and I’m right on weight.”

Johnston’s typical training camp day starts at 6 AM with a four-mile run, followed by breakfast and a short nap before going to the gym at 11, where Stevie generally does 20-25 rounds, including sparring, before returning home, showering and resting until the next day.

Johnston hasn’t fought in Colorado in 61/2 years. Toledo (31-3-2, 19 KOs), rated No. 16 by the WBC, is from Ecuador. He fought world-rated contender Humberto Soto (40-5-2) earlier this year.

NBA light welterweight champion Adrian “Juanito” Mora (18-0-1, 10 KOs), of Thornton (CO), faces former NABO title challenger Marc Thompson (15-1, 12 KOs) in the 12-round co-feature for the vacant IBA light welterweight championship.

Adrian’s older brother, light welterweight Anthony “The Matrix” Mora (15-1, 10 KOs), takes on an opponent to be determined in a six-round bout.

Also scheduled to fight on the “Rocky Mountain Mayhem: Return of the Champ” card is heavyweight slugger Cedric “The Bos” Boswell (23-1, 18 KOs) against veteran Steve “Storm” Pannell (34-11, 28 KOs), as well as undefeated welterweight sensation Salvador “Alexis” Camacho (14-0, 13 KOs) versus Rob Adamson (9-1-1, 8 KOs), and lightweight prospect Jaime “Superfly” Sandoval (14-1, 12 KOs) vs. TBA.
