Some of the best fights of the year have come from the smaller weight divisions where fighters have so much to prove and so much to lose. Martin Power, who is looking to get back on track after two brave defeats at the hands of Tshifhiwa Munyai earlier in the year, is a fine example of the admirable qualities possessed by fighters in these divisions..
British bantamweight champion Power, 27, seeks to win a Lonsdale belt outright and mark a return to the form that saw him win his first 19 bouts when he fights the talented Jason Booth 27-4 (10 KOs) on 15 June to decide the British nantamweight title.
Booth, 29, a British Flyweight Champion and former IBO Super Flyweight title holder, is in a similar position to Power 19-2 (8 KOs) insofar as he is a talented fighter on the brink of his career – and nothing but a win will suffice.
Also on the bill at the Crystal Palace National Sports Centre is Tshifhiwa Munyai, the scourge of the British Bantamweight division. The extraordinarily tall Munyai defeated Power in a Commonwealth Bantamweight title clash in June 2006 and was equally impressive when claiming a fourth round victory in the January rematch.
Munyai 13-0-1 (8 KOs) shares the undercard with talented fighters such as Scott Belshaw, the undefeated Irish Heavyweight and Gary Woolcombe, whose run of 22 successive victories came to a halt at the hands of Andrew Facey in January.
