Sturm vs Alcoba on June 30, Halmich vs Rodriguez on July 28

felix sturmWorld Champion Felix Sturm (27-2-0 (12)) will jeopardize his WBA championship belt at middleweight at the “Universum Champions Night.” After a very successful recapture of the belt against the Spaniard Javier Castillejo on April 28th on Oberhausen, he will try now to keep this belt for a long time.

It will be Sturm’s first appearance in Stuttgart and his opponent will be the unbeaten WBA-Fedelatin-Champion Noe Tulio Gonzalez Alcoba (14-0-0 (7)). The 28 year old Uruguayan Alcoba, who currently lives in Argentina, is called “El Carbonero” (the collier). He is a typical south american fighter and a tough challenge for Sturm.

Felix Sturm: “I’m feeling great and I wanted to fight very soon after the bout against Castillejo. With the Urugyan Alcoba I have a typical South American fighter: a hard hitting puncher and unpredictable – a tough challenge for me! I’m really looking forward to my in Stuttgart and I have said a few times that I would like to fight there some time in the future. I have a lot of fans down there!”

“Box-Queen” Regina Halmich vs. US girl Wendy Rodriguez on July 28th!
Regina Halmich and Ina Menzer: Two Universum World Champions feature the event on 28th of July 2007 at the Burg-Wächter Castello in Düsseldorf

Female world title fights will take center stage on the July 28 “Universum Champions Night” at the Burg-Wächter Castello in Düsseldorf. The postponed event, originally scheduled on June 2, will be headlined by the first lady of boxing Regina Halmich (52-1-1, 16 KOs) who will defend her WIBF flyweight championship along with WIBF featherweight champion Ina Menzer (17-0, 8 KOs).

The “Box – Queen” Regina Halmich will defend her WIBF world title, in her 55th pro fight, against US-American Wendy Rodriguez (18-3-3 (3)) who is listed within the top five of the rankings.

Halmich stated: “Wendy Rodriguez is a tough challenge for me. I will have a precise and accurate preparation for this important fight. Too bad that my injury gave me kind of a setback but everything is running on schedule right now. As to my retirement from boxing, I wouldn’t like to say good-bye from boxing with a defeat. There won’t be any further professional fights for me in Düsseldorf. However, the handkerchiefs should still remain in the bags. Right now it’s bad to talk about the last fight or parting. Apart from that, Düsseldorf is a very good memory. One year ago, I defeated the Hungarian Milo clearly in same place. At the end of January, the Düsseldorf public again proved their enthusiasm for boxing when they pushed my stable colleague Julia Sahin to the world championship in a great fight.”

Additional “woman power” on the card will be provided by WIBF featherweight champion Ina Menzer, who will defend her belt against an opponent to be named from the top five. It will be her first appearance in Düsseldorf.

The unbeaten featherweight, who grew up in the nearby Mönchengladbach, is looking forward to her fight near her hometown. The 26 year old said: “I’m excited about his and happy to fight in Düsseldorf as it is very close to my hometown and many of my friends can come and see me!”

The complete fightcard and additional information about this event will be announced within the next weeks.
