06.08.07 – Interim WBO World Super-Featherweight boxing Champion Alex Arthur believes Joan Guzman is scared of fighting Scotsmen because of what is under their kilts! The Edinburgh hotshot beat Koba Gogoladze last month in Cardiff with a superb performance to claim the Interim crown and is now desperate to get Guzman in the ring to prove who is the true king of the division.
Hard-hitting Guzman, from the Domincan Republic, previously pulled out of a fight against Glasgow’s then WBO World Featherweight boxing Champion Scott Harrison in May last year when he couldn’t make the 9st limit.
He has a fight scheduled against Humberto Soto on November 17 but it is widely believed that Guzman will be unable to make the weight and move up to lightweight and then Arthur will be crowned the real boxing champion.
But Arthur reckons that Guzman is terrified of not only what he packs in his fists but what he packs under his kilt!
“Guzman has heard the legend about what Scottish men wear under their kilts and it has got him scared!” Said Arthur.
“It’s plain for everybody to see that something has got him terrified and he doesn’t want to fight me or come to Scotland. He pulled out of fighting Scott Harrison and now he is running from me, I just can’t see any other reason why he does not want to fight Scotsmen other than he doesn’t want to get battered by a man wearing a skirt.”
“Imagine going back to the Dominican Republic, which I guess is pretty hard place, and all his mates are ribbing him because he got battered by a wee man that wears a kilt; he would never be able to live it down.”
“Guzman must think us Scotsmen are a bit nuts because I also heard that when he was due to fight Harrison he got worried because he had heard about getting a traditional Glasgow Kiss when he arrived in Scotland!”
Arthur added, “Braveheart William Wallace, Robert the Bruce and Rob Roy all went into battle with kilts and no pants and that is what I will do against Guzman if he ever grows the balls to fight me. Well, he’s got 180 days from when I won the title in Cardiff to face me otherwise he will be stripped of his title. If we do fight, then I promise I will wear my kilt in the ring and when I knock him out and he’s flat out on the canvas, i’ll be standing over him and then he will see for himself what us Scotsmen wear!”
