A native of Denver, Colorado, the 27 year old Alvarado, 17-0 (11KO’s), is a rising star in the highly competitive welterweight division. He has impressed Chicagoland crowds in his last two fights with a crushing knockout of Francisco Campos on June 8th and a terrific win in his battle with Carlos Molina on February 16th.
Said ESPN’s Dan Rafael about the Campos knockout, “Prospect Alvarado did what he was supposed to do: score a spectacular knockout. Alvarado took it right to Campos. He was landing excellent combinations in the second round and was firing punches with Campos trapped along the ropes. Finally, Alvarado uncorked a sweet left hook to the chin. Good night.”
An amateur champion in his native Mexico, Jorge Alberto Padilla’s four year career includes terrific battles with prospects such as Timothy Bradley, Dominic Camarena, Herman Ngoudjo and Dominick Chavez. Nine months ago his brewing battle with highly regarded Americos Santos was stopped on cuts in the third round resulting in a technical draw.
The slick boxing Padilla brings a record of 7-3-3 into his bout with Alvarado. His ESPN televised bout with fellow prospect Camerena in 2005 was considered by some at ringside to be a hometown decision taken from him.
The full “EL BRAVO” fight card is as follows;
