6.08.07 – Chicagoan Gilbert Venegas, fresh off his outstanding “Fight of the Year” candidate battle with world ranked Jesus Soto-Karass returns to the SOLO BOXEO airwaves this Friday night, August 17th. Venegas, 10-4-3 (7KO’s), heads to his native Texas where he will take on heavy handed welterweight prospect Michel Rosales, 11-1 (10KO’s) in the eight round co-main event from the El Paso County Coliseum.
The Venegas/Rosales battle is part of the 5th anniversary of SOLO BOXEO, Telefutura’s outstanding Friday night boxing series which can be viewed in 42 US markets and 70 foreign countries.
On May 25th, Venegas and Soto-Karass fought valiantly to a 12 round draw at the Isleta Resort and Casino in Albuerquerque, New Mexico. The all action SOLO BOXEO televised fight was heralded by many boxing writers as amongst the finest they had witnessed in the first half of 2007.
Prior to the war with Soto-Karass, Venegas knocked out New England prospect Ed Paredes in the third round on March 16, 2007 at Rockingham Park in Salem, New Hampshire. His career also includes a hard fought six round draw with undefeated New Jersey based prospect Henry Crawford.
