14.09.07 – By Gary Jones: Albert “The Dragon” Sosnowski (41-1, 25 KOs), the WBF heavyweight boxing champion, TKO’d his thirty-six year old challenger Manuel Alberto Pucheta (18-2, 12 KOs) in the second round of a scheduled 12-round bout on Friday night at the Ice Rink, Kirkcaldy, in Scotland..
Sosnowski, 28, knocked his Argentinian opponent down once in the first round and twice in the second round before referee Terry O’Connor put a halt to the bout at 2:03 of the second round with Pucheta bleeding from the face and badly hurt. It was an impressive victory for Sosnowski, but it’s high time that he starts stepping up the level of his competition because with a record of 41-1, he should be fighting top tier fighters only, not the 2nd and 3rd tier fighters that he’s been fighting as of late.
Sosnowski looked to be in excellent shape as the fight started, showing very little fat on his body. Unfortunately, the same couldn’t be said for Pucheta, who looked to be in poor shape with a large amounts of fat handing over his trunks. Just from looking at the two fighter, it was obvious who was going to win the fight.
The first round was, not surprisingly controlled by Sosnowski, who landed painfully slow hooks and right crosses to the head of Pucheta. Just watching the speed with which Sosnowski threw his punches, I wasn’t surprised that he hadn’t stepped it up, because he has zero handspeed and would have problems against a faster heavyweight in the top 10.
Pucheta, for his part, did very little in the round, mostly missing the shots that he attempted to throw. However, just when I was losing interest in the bout, Sosnowski landed a nice looking left hook that sent Pucheta flying backwards towards the ropes where he then slid down to the canvas in a heep.
After getting up, his nose now bleeding from the punch, Pucheta seemed eager to mix it up with Sosnowski, waving at him with both arms and asking for him to come forward. Sosnowski, perhaps thinking that Pucheta was crazy, seemed to shrug his shoulders and then coming forward to continue raining punches on pucheta. However, before Sosnowski could put a finish to the bout, the round ended.
In the second round, Sosnowski came out firing away with since shots to the head mostly with his right hand. Pucheta now, however, was no longer motioning for Sosnowski to come forward, and instead was backing away and trying to buy some time in the fight. Soon after, Sosnowski landed a couple of hard rights and then another left hook that sent Pucheta to the canvas for the second time in the bout. After getting up and having his mouthpiece put back in, Pucheta gamely attempted to fight on.
Sosnowski, though, had other ideas, and immediately tagged him with a right uppercut, and then 1-2 combination that knocked Pucheta to the canvas for the final time. The referee Terry O’Connor stepped in at that point and stopped the bout, as Pucheta’s face was a bloody mess and he was too badly hurt to continue fighting.
