16.09.07 – Luis DeCubas and Elite Promotions brings professional boxing back to the Mahi Temple on Sept. 28 in a 9-bout show. Three 8-round bouts are featured, with Miami welterweight Ed Paredes (14-2, 9 KO’s), taking on Columbia’s William Moreno (23-6, 17 KO’s); Puerto Rican welterweight Yukenze Andino (9-0, 3 KO’s) squaring off with Nelson Romine of Ohio (8-1, 2 KO’s) and Philadelphia heavyweight Malik Scott (29-0, 11 KO’s) risking his unbeaten mark against Ron Bellamy (14-7, 9 KO’s).
Paredes is attracting a growing local following and scored an impressive win over undefeated Antoine Smith in his last outing at the Mahi Temple. Andino expects an all-out war with Romine, who is managed by John Johnson, a former Ohio State football coach who guided Buster Douglas to his upset win over Mike Tyson. Scott, America’s best heavyweight prospect, is making his second appearance at Mahi Temple, Miami’s new home for professional boxing. DeCubas and Elite Promotions are bringing their fourth world-class boxing card to the venue in five months and plan 10 shows at the Mahi Temple in 2008.
The undercard is studded with local talent, including Miami heavyweight Wilmer Vasquez (2-0), a member of the 2004 Venezuelan Olympic team; unbeaten Puerto Rican lightweight Juan Nazario (4-0), Ft. Lauderdale heavyweight Kevin Burnett (8-1) and West Palm Beach heavyweight Kasim Howard (1-0). In addition, Immokalee welterweight Elliot Alvarado (3-0) and Puerto Rican jr. welterweight Hector Sanchez (11-0) defend their unbeaten marks.
Tickets are $30 general admission, $60 ringside, $500 for VIP tables seating 4 and $1,000 and $1,600 for VIP tables seating 8. Tickets can be purchased by calling 561-629-6212. The Mahi Temple is located at 1480 NW North River Drive.
