19.09.07 – By Keith Terceira: The former #1 ranked heavyweight in the world continues his journey back from medical suspension by taking on Miller who distinguished himself in 2005 with a rough and tumble brawl with Vinny Maddalone. Having signed a new promotional deal with CES and Jimmy Burchfield, Mesi looks to come out of the gate in a big way.
Twin River Event Center, Lincoln, Rhode Island will host this main event on October 12th, but first the two will go head to head on www.TPSradio.net and www.talkinboxing.com .
Also appearing to discuss the event in Rhode Island is CES President Burchfield
Burchfield is quoted as saying;
“Joe Mesi is what boxing needs today. He’s already a great commentator and he’s going to be a great promoter, but boxing is what Joe Mesi does and what he wants to continue doing. Joe feels that his life is incomplete until he captures the heavyweight championship of the world.”
TalkinBoxing will get Jimmy’s thought tonight on the direction of Mesi’s career and other top CES performers like top Cruiserweight Matt Godfrey.
Also appearing for his first US media appearance exclusive to TalkinBoxing with Billy C is Two time Cuban National Champion Angelo Santana Diaz who braved imprisonment and persecution to recently defect from his country to come to USA.
Angelo is the most recent defection and you can hear about his journey and daring escape across the Caribbean to begin his pro career. Having little choice but defect Diaz who won 7 cuban regional titles was prevented from competing in the Pan American games by Fidel due to his family ties in the US.
Further stalling his career was Cuba’s choice not to appear in the World Championships taking place in Chicago next month.
Interpreting for TalkinBoxing will be contributor RBF President Alex Ramos
Both Alex Ramos and Angelo “the Cobra” Santana were prevented from going for the gold by the politics of their day.
TalkinBoxing with Billy C Hosted by BWAA Bill Calogero and co-hosted by Eastsideboxing,com contributor Keith Terceira can be heard Wednesday’s from 6-8 pm est
