Undefeated and ranked heavyweight contender Travis “The Freight Train” Walker announced today that he is anxious and willing to step in for Oleg Maskaev and fight number one ranked WBC contender Samuel Peter on October 6 in Madison Square Garden. Walker stated that, “I am in shape and have been sparing regularly preparing for an upcoming fight next week, so I am in excellent shape..
“My management team is confident that our promoter Goossen Tutor could make arrangements to allow us to sub in for Oleg Maskaev if Samuel Peter wishes to still fight on October 6. I have been fighting regularly and just came out of an excellent camp so I am ready to go 12 rounds and prove that I am the best heavyweight, not only in America, but in the world.
I would welcome the opportunity to fight Samuel Peter and test myself against the heavyweight currently considered the best prospect in the world.” Walker went on to say, “I like to test myself and I am ready to test myself against Sam Peter. I rise to the level of the fighter that I fight and I believe by fighting Sam Peter I will be at my best.
It would be a very exciting fight since both of us are big, strong men who come straight at you and throw hard punches. If Samuel Peter and Duva Boxing can arrange to have a WBC Interim Title fight, we are ready to step in. All they have to do is call my promoter, Goossen Tutor, or my manager, Munisteri Sports.
Travis Walker’s manager, Steve Munisteri, who also managed Ike Ibeabuchi a Nigerian fighter similar to Samuel Peter, noted “Walker vs. Peter would be like Tua vs. Ibeabuchi in my mind. The only difference is that Travis is bigger than Ibeabuchi, Tua or Peter. At 6’ 4½” and 250 pounds, I am confident The Freight Train would create quite a challenge for Mr. Peter. Above all it should be an extremely exciting fight and if the Peter’s Camp is serious about keeping their date at the Garden this would be a great way to do it. I doubt there any other undefeated heavyweights who are ranked that are in shape and ready to go on a couple weeks notice. The Freight Train is ready to roll.”
Travis Walker is rated number 5 in North America by the NABF, number 8 by the USBA (number 1 and number 2 not rated), number 8 in North America by the WBO, and is rated number 35 in the world by the WBC. He is the 2003 National Golden Gloves Champion, is undefeated at 25 wins, no loses and a draw. He is the current IBA Continental Americas Champion.
