Chicago fan favorite Jaime “SUPERFLY” Sandoval declared himself “100% ready” for battle this Friday night as he takes on Juan Carlos “EL PEZ” Martinez this Friday night, October 19th at Cicero Stadium..
The Sandoval/Martinez featherweight bout headlines BAD BLOOD, a world class evening of professional boxing presented by Dominic Pesoli’s 8 Count Productions, HOME OF THE BEST IN CHICAGO BOXING, along with TCF Bank, Miller Beer and AeroMexico.
Cicero Stadium is located at 1909 S. Laramie, just minutes from the Eisenhower and Stevenson Expressways. Doors for this event will open at 7:00pm with the first bell at 8:00pm. Tickets are available in advance by calling 312-226-5800.
Sandoval, 14-2 (12KO’s), is the brother of former world champion Jesus Chavez, who will accompany him to the ring. Speaking of his upcoming bout with Martinez, 8-4-1 (5KO’s), Sandoval said, “Although he lives in Mexico (San Luis Potosi) we’ve sparred quite a few times here in Chicago. He’s a very tough guy and I’ll need to be at my best to beat him. His last bout with Wilton Hilario showed how much of a warrior he is.”
About the conditioning and preparation for this fight, the good looking Sandoval said, “I’m in great shape, I’ve sparred many rounds with similar sized fighters in preparation for this bout.”
Speaking of his game plan against Martinez, the 26 year old Sandoval said, “I’m a few inches taller than Juan Carlos so I plan to stay on the outside and keep him at my distance. He’s going to want to make this an inside fight which is not in my best interests.
With this being his first bout in Chicago in over a year, the classy Sandoval spoke about fighting at home, ‘It’s always a thrill to fight here, it’s very important to perform well in front of my family and friends and I’m grateful to Dominic and 8 Count for this opportunity.”
Regarding his future plans, Sandoval said, “One fight at a time. I had won six in a row before coming up short in a close decision to Johnnie Edwards. I need to get back in the win column this Friday.”
