Rodney Bay, St. Lucia (November 15, 2007) – Innovative media giant ClearChannel Radio, in conjunction with Goossen Tutor Promotions, has come up with a creative vehicle designed to promote the Simply Beautiful Island of St. Lucia and its very first world class professional boxing event tomorrow night..
ClearChannel Radio has a trio of its Los Angeles-based affiliates doing live remote broadcasts from St. Lucia in support of “Showtime In Paradise”, a six-bout boxing extravaganza presented by Goossen Tutor.
Those stations, which made their way to this spectacular Caribbean island, are KLAC-570 AM, KFI-640 AM and HOT 92.3 FM.
Rich Marotta and Bill Handel have been promoting the event to KFI’s listening audience of 1.5 million people from 5-9 AM (PDT). Damon Knight and Victor Zaragoza are on at the same time to HOT 92.3’s one million listeners. And Marotta does double-duty with another four-hour shift with the Loose Cannons on KLAC from 12-4 pm (PDT) to half-a-million people. All three stations have been conducting live interviews with many of the boxers scheduled to appear on tomorrow night’s show, including featured performers super middleweights Andre Ward and his opponent, Roger Cantrell; and heavyweight competitors Teke Oruh and Joey Abell.
Ed Sheftel, from ClearChannel, also made the long trip from Los Angeles to this vacation hotspot, pointed out that the three stations were all promoting a contest to listeners with winners receiving an all-expenses paid trip to see “Showtime in Paradise” live in St. Lucia.
“Regular station listeners who compiled enough rewards points by visiting the web pages of all three radio stations were required to redeem points for lottery tickets and the chance to see the likes of Andre Ward and the other world class professional boxers in action during a dream trip to St. Lucia,” said Shaftel. “And while KLAC has the smallest audience of the three stations, it has the 10th highest amount of web hits in the country.
“Through this contest and our live remotes we are reaching out to millions of people and letting them know about Andre Ward and Joey Abell, as well as the beauty of St. Lucia. I commend the out-of-the-box thinking of Dan Goossen for in introducing new fans to boxing and bring them out to St. Lucia through the power of the web and radio.”
“We are extremely excited to have ClearChannel working with us on helping us to find a new and exciting locale for professional boxing and simultaneously promoting one of the world’s most beautiful treasures: the Island of St. Lucia,” Goossen said. “We congratulate all the contest winners and look forward to seeing them at the fight where we expect they will see a fantastic boxing program, as well as a most amazing experience in St. Lucia.”
Presented by Goossen Tutor Promotions, in association with the St. Lucia Tourist Board, “Showtime In Paradise” will emanate from the Beausejour Cricket Ground, situated on the outskirts of the tourist resort area of Rodney Bay on the island’s northeast coast, and will be televised worldwide on Showtime Network’s “ShoBox: The New Generation” (11 PM EDT live/11 PM PDT tape delay).
Doors open at 7:00 PM (local time) with first bout scheduled for 9:00 pm.
