Cross Town Rivals Look To Do It Again at “Holiday Boxing Bash”

On December 14, cross-town rivals Jermaine White of Gary and Ruben Galvan of Hammond, deliver eight more verses of Jingle Hell when they face off in their highly anticipated re-match at the “Holiday Boxing Bash” at Majestic Star Casino in Gary, Indiana. Presented by Octavius James’ One In A Million Inc., the Bash features five exciting bouts including Gary’s own NABC champion “Merciless” Mary McGee in the evening’s main event..

In the pre-fight press leading up to their first showdown, White (15-3, 7 KOs) and Galvan (27-11-3, 10 KOs) mutually spoke of their friendly rivalry and admiration of each other’s boxing skill. Both respectfully offered that once they entered the ring, they were simply “taking care of business.”

That lasted all of 30 seconds. As soon as the first serious punches landed, “friendly” flew out the window and it was “on.” After eight rounds of back and forth action, White would walk away with the IN.B.A. welterweight title and bragging rights as the best welterweight in the One In A Million stable of fighters.

There is no reason to expect the December 14 rematch to be any different. Galvan, a veteran who may or may not have many more fights left in his career, seeks redemption for a loss that stings on a local, personal level. White has absolutely no intention of losing at home in Gary.

In the evening’s main event, NABC light welterweight champion, “Merciless” Mary McGee (12-0, 7 KOs), faces Leora Jackson for the second time. In May of 2006, when McGee’s record was just 6-0, Mary won a six round majority decision over Jackson. McGee intends to beat her again, except this time, she intends to utilize the experience gained since their first fight to beat Jackson in a far more spectacular fashion. Nothing less than a KO will suffice.

McGee, a 21-year-old Gary native, won her first championship, the NABC title, in October when she stopped Tawnyah Freeman in eight rounds. The first and only female boxing champion from the Steel City, a city with a rich boxing heritage, the “Holiday Boxing Bash” will mark McGee’s first performance in her hometown as a champion.

Also in action, Gary’s undefeated “Dangerous” Don Moore (13-0-1, 10 KOs) looks to impress his hometown fans with another exciting performance at lightweight. Hammond’s light heavyweight Jimmy Perez Jr. (2-0, 1 KO) fights for the third time since turning pro just three months ago. Making his professional debut at super middleweight, Gary native Frantoine “Tiger” Greenwood.

Majestic Star’s entertainment pavilion provides fans with an intimate, up-close setting for the evening’s boxing action. A limited number of tickets are available to the public.
