“Holiday Boxing Bash”: NABC Champ Mary McGee Plus 8 More Stanzas of Jingle Hell

Chicagoland and northwest Indiana fight fans are invited to attend the official boxer weigh-ins for One In A Million Inc.’s “Holiday Boxing Bash” this Thursday at 6 p.m. in the Lakeshore Lounge at Majestic Star Casino. Majestic Star, located at One Buffington Harbor in Gary, Indiana, offers free admission and parking for this event..

A limited number of tickets, priced at $100 VIP, $50 ringside and $30 general admission, remain on sale to the public for Friday night’s Bash. Fans are encouraged to purchase tickets, while they last, from the casino’s gift shop or any Ticket Master outlet.

In Friday night’s main event, Gary’s own “Merciless” Mary McGee (12-0, 7 KOs) fights a rematch with Leora Jackson who Mary beat by majority decision in May of ‘ 06. Having been disappointed with that outcome ever since, this time, McGee intends to score nothing less than a spectacular knock out to correct what Mary considers to be the only blemish on her record.

In October, McGee won the NABC junior welterweight title by stopping veteran Tawnyah Freeman. McGee is the first and only women’s boxing champ from Gary, a city rich in boxing history.

“One of the very best things about having a title is showing the kids at home the championship belt that I worked so hard to earn,” McGee said. “These kids look amazed and excited when they try my belt on. I can see them dreaming about winning something of their own someday and I’m happy to have the chance to encourage them. I want to say ‘thank you’ again to the area Boys and Girls Clubs for inviting me to be part of their Holiday celebration.”

“Mary is looking forward to showing off her new hardware,” said Octavius James, CEO of One In A Million Inc. “If you’ve never seen a championship belt up-close, and they’re pretty cool to see, you’ll have the opportunity to see Mary’s championship belt this Thursday at the Majestic Star weigh-ins.”

Also on tap, Jermaine White (15-3, 7 KOs) of Gary and Ruben Galvan (27-11-3, 10 KOs) of Hammond, deliver eight more stanzas of Jingle Hell when they face off in their highly anticipated re-match. Ten months ago, both fighters threw “friendly rivalry” and “mutual respect” out of the window for eight rounds of non-stop action.

In the end, White walked away with the IN.B.A. welterweight title and bragging rights as the best welterweight in the One In A Million stable of fighters. This Friday, Galvan looks for redemption against his cross-town rival.

Rounding out the card, Gary’s undefeated “Dangerous” Don Moore (13-0-1, 10 KOs), Hammond’s light heavyweight Jimmy Perez Jr. (2-0, 1 KO) and, making his professional debut, super middleweight Frantoine “Tiger” Greenwood, also of Gary.

During December, One In A Million Inc. hosted an essay contest for local charities who have provided exceptional service to their community. “We’ll be announcing the winner of the $2000 prize during Friday nights event,” said James.

Doors to the “Holiday Boxing Bash” open at 7 p.m. First bout at 8 p.m.
