Danny Green Mounts WBA Title Assault Down Under

Light heavyweight contender Danny Green looks for a return to world glory on Sunday, December 16, 2007 when the 34 year old slugger challenges reigning WBA champion Stipe Drews on a Green Machine Promotion at Challenge Stadium in Perth, Australia..

A former WBC Interim super middleweight champion, Green, 24-3 (22), comes into the clash holding victories over the likes of Eric Lucas, Otis Griffin and Kirino Garcia as well as having battered Markus Beyer into submission in Germany, only to be disqualified afterward.

Since moving up to the light heavyweight division in late 2006, current IBF Pan Pacfic, PABA and IBO Asia Pacific titlist Green has looked sensational in stopped three opponents with the combined record of 64-12-5 but will be in with his most accomplished opponent since dropping a 12 round unanimous decision to super middle world champion Anthony Mundine last year.

At 6 foot 5, WBA champion Drews, 32-1 (13), will hold a four inch height advantage over Green and has put together a six fight win streak since losing to Australia’s Paul Briggs in 2004.

Twice the European champion, Drews annexed the WBA crown in his most recent outing by putting on a superb performance against the still dangerous old Italian master, Silvio Branco, sweeping the scorecards in Germany this past April.

Green has dedicated himself to getting past the long reach of the champion and into the kill zone where he can unleash his vaunted power shots and bring the WBA title belt to his hometown of Perth.

On the undercard at Challenge Stadium, Commonwealth featherweight king Jackson Asiku, 21-3 (11), puts his 10 bout run of victories at risk against challenger Matt Powell, 10-3-2 (3), and red hot 20 year old super feather prospect William Kickett, 7-0 (4), steps way up in class to face two time world featherweight title challenger Tommy Browne, 23-4-1 (8), who has only lost to world champions Chris John and Injin Chi over the last four years.
