Los Angeles, CA (January 11, 2008) – Despite a 30-0 (16 KO) record and a spot in the finals of an IBF Heavyweight Championship Eliminator, Eddie Chambers and his trainer/father, Eddie W. Chambers, agreed on two things – the younger Chambers has all the tools to be a World Heavyweight Champion and the time was right to bring in an added voice of experience to his corner..
Thus, former two-time world champion and one of the sport’s most respected and well-known trainers, James “Buddy” Mc Girt, was added to Team Chambers to partner up with the senior Chambers to prepare “Fast Eddie” for his January 26, 2008 showdown with undefeated Russian Alexander Povetkin (14-0, 11 KO) in Germany.
“It’s going real well,” Chambers said from his training camp in Vero Beach, Florida at the Mc Girt Boxing Gym. “Training camp brings a whole new perspective; throw in Buddy with his world championship experience as both a fighter and trainer, and I can tell the difference in and out of the ring. Mentally and physically, I feel very strong and fast. Working with Buddy and my dad…has been better than I could have ever imagined. I have the best of both worlds.”
“It’s been a great privilege and honor to be asked to work with Eddie Sr. and his son on such an important fight,” Mc Girt said. “Eddie has come a long way with his dad and I truly respect that. I sit back and watch, and when I see something that can help, I say it. We have great chemistry together.”
With final preparations for the Povetkin fight winding down in Florida, Chambers is aware of what is at stake against the 2004 Olympic Super Heavyweight Gold Medalist.
“We leave for Germany next week,” Chambers pointed out. “The major work has been done. “I’ve worked hard to get into this position and I’m ready for it.”
HBO will televise the scheduled 12-round contest on January 26 — presented by Sauerland Events and Goossen Tutor Promotions — from Berlin’s Tempodrom.
