ARENA-CEO Ahmet Öner responds to an interview Gomez gave to fightnews.com today: Ahmet Öner: “Juan, it is not my style to communicate with other people via internet but as you asked me in your last interview why I was looking for you, I think it would be impolite not to answer at all. I am not looking for you, my friend. I always know exactly where you are and what you do….What you’re doing right now is what you always do when you get close to something big: You blow your chances!
You may have been on your best way to become World Champion but now you are about to prove once more that you are only the champion of blowing chances! You and your manager and all you great ‘advisors’ think I didn’t pay you according to your contract? Does your manager know that I paid you more than 800,000 € since you signed with me?
Do you remember where you have been before I brought you back? You have been with the same guys that want to ‘help’ you right now. And how great did they ‘help’ you back then? Nobody wanted you, Juan, nobody would have given you a penny to fight on their shows! I was the only one who believed in you, who invested in you, who made you train hard, who gave you good fights for good money and who brought you to the top of the ratings. Sorry for ‘wasting your time’ by making you the WBC International Champion, sorry for getting you in that Eliminator with Virchis and giving you the chance to dream of becoming world champion.
Talking about dreaming: I smiled when I heard of your idea of terminating your promotional contract. Sorry, my friend, bad luck for you, you can’t. It’s a legal agreement. You signed it, now be man enough to fulfil it. Besides, even if you terminated it – who would you want to work with? Do you really think any promoter in the world would sign with a guy like you who is under contract and starts talking trash in interviews? Dream on, Juan!
I wish you the best of luck for your fight against Virchis. I’ll be at the ringside watching the fight and I hope you win it so we can go on to your title shot. Unfortunately, after your last interview I can’t stand by my offer to pay you a winning bonus. Looks like you blew it again, my friend. You almost had that money in your hands, now I’ll keep it.
I read that you are even thinking of not taking the fight if they don’t agree to your ‘special conditions’. Are you afraid of Vladimir Virchis, Juan? Are you trying to sneak out of that fight hoping that you might get a title shot without fighting Virchis? You’re a funny guy, Juan! I saw you got a new trainer now. Congratulations! I believe he’s a good guy and I’m really not envious of him about his job. You better train hard because if you stay focused you can certainly beat Virchis.
Everybody knows that you’re better using your hands in the ring than using your brain and mouth outside anyways.”
