Eric Fields Drops The Hammer On Kelvin Davis; Bailey and Paredes Obliterate Opponents

By Phil Santos – Overhandright.com – Eric Fields notched the most impressive win of his young career by crushing the come-backing Kelvin “Concrete” Davis. Remarkably Davis was making his return to the ring after suffering from a broken neck and back which were the results of his plummeting 25 feet off a bridge in attempt to avoid a car that had lost control.. A win over a promising prospect like Fields could have helped get Davis back on the track to title contention. Eric Fields however was not very cooperative. The second the bell sounded Fields went on the attack, backing Davis up with bad intentions. Davis stepped back and attempted to weather the storm, as we’ve seen him do in past fights, in hopes to take the young prospect into deeper waters (Fields had never been past 6 rounds).

Unfortunately for Davis there would never be a 2nd round. Fields caught the former title holder with a stiff combination, punctuated by a stinging uppercut. Davis hit the canvas and the fight was waved off. This was certainly an impressive win for Eric Fields who stepped up to face a tough, veteran in Kelvin Davis. Despite the fact that Davis was clearly a shell of his former self Fields did what is expected of a promising prospect; he dispatched his opponent quickly and with authority. Additionally he added a quality win, at least in name at this point, to his résumé. Fields improves to 11-0 (9) and is definitely someone to keep an eye on at Cruiserweight.

Randall Bailey made short work of an overmatched Anthony Mora. Mora had a solid record of 15-1 (10) entering his match with Bailey but he was clearly out of his league against the former Junior Welterweight titlist. Bailey controlled the first few rounds with Mora landing flush occasionally. The trouble for Mora came in the 4th when Bailey landed a quick right, left, right that flattened Mora. He beat the count but it was clear that survival was now the prime objective.

Mora was completely ineffective in the 5th round as Bailey walked him down while waiting for an opening. He found it with a thudding right hand that floored Mora for a second time. Mora again beat the count but his corner wisely realized that no good could come from continuing the contest and threw in the towel. Bailey runs his record to 36-6 (33) and remains a viable threat to anyone at 140 lbs.

In other action Ed Paredes won his 7th straight fight against an unimpressive opponent in Cesar Vega. Paredes, who has been labeled a rising prospect, was less than stellar for 4 rounds before finally closing the deal in the 5th. Paredes cornered his opponent along the ropes and unleashed a hard right ending Vega’s night. Ed Paredes improves to 18-2 (11) and needs to step it up if he hopes to compete at Welterweight, undoubtedly the deepest division in the sport.
