Since its inception in 2005, the Connecticut Boxing Hall of Fame has had three successful induction dinners, compiled an expansive collection of fight films, and stockpiled memorabilia. The only thing missing for the Connecticut Boxing Hall of Fame was a home. That will all change on June 12..
The CBHOF will hold an unveiling for its new home at 4:30 p.m. on June 12 on the concourse level of the Mohegan Sun Arena, which is on the grounds of the Mohegan Sun Casino in Uncasville.
During the unveiling, the plaques for the 18 inductees, which will be enclosed in Plexiglas, will be displayed. A video server will be in operation that will continuously show footage of the inductees. There will be a 24-foot long sign that can be easily viewed to identify the home for the CBHOF. The unveiling is being held in conjunction with an all-female fight card that will take place that evening in the Mohegan Sun Arena. The unveiling ceremony will be by invitation only and not open to the general public.
“Having a home for the Connecticut Boxing Hall of Fame has been one of our primary goals since we established a board of directors in 2005, and we are thrilled to see that goal realized,’’ CBHOF president Glenn Feldman said. “This is something we have worked hard to create. Much of the credit must go to officials with the Mohegan Sun Casino, who diligently worked with us to establish a permanent home.’’
The first class of inductees in 2005 consisted of Willie Pep, Marlon Starling, Johnny Duke, Louis “Kid” Kaplan, Christopher “Bat: Battalino and Maxie Rosenbloom. Inducted in 2006 were Chico Vejar, Gaspar Ortega, John Burns, Manny Leibert, Lou Bogash and Nathan Mann. The 2007 class of inductees featured Vic Cardell, Johnny Cesario, Tyrone Booze, Joe Rossi, Pinky Silverbeg and Lou Brouillard.
The CBHOF will announce is 2008 induction class in July. The 2008 induction dinner is slated for Nov. 21 at the Foxwoods Resort Casino in Ledyard.
