For those of you who saw Sergio Mora score a majority decision over Vernon Forrest on Saturday winning the WBC Welterweight World Championship, you can now add Mora to the list of 32 current or former world champions who have fought at the Battle In The Ballroom. Mora, who is still undefeated, won a decision at the Marriott in June of 2002..
Now when the bell rings for next Thursday’s June 19th Battle In The Ballroom show, fans will get to see at least four young boxing talents, all who have the pedigree to become a world champion, and join the likes of Battle In The Ballroom alums Shane Mosley, Johnny Tapia, Isidro Garcia, Carlos Hernandez, Israel Vazquez, and Mike Anchondo to name a few.
Let’s start with Santa Ana’s Jose Roman who will be making his pro debut. He’s a four times amateur champion, fought on several international teams and won 80% of his amateur fights. He’ll be in action vs Jorge Magallones from Fresno. Now add 2-0 Carlos Molina who will be back in action after an eight month layoff, as not one wanted to fight him. A former amateur national champion, Molina is managed by Frank Espinoza who also handles Israel Vazquez and Luis Ramos, so you know Molina has potential.
Throw in 2-0 Tyrone Chatman the best prospect ever to come out of St. Louis and Angel Magdaleno, both who are managed by top East Coast fight manager Jerry Giuliano and you have four great fighters in four great fights on June 19th.
And if you want a heavyweight bout, fans will get a rematch of Huntington Beach’s 1-1 Takilesi Fifita vs Long Beach’s 2-0 Ethan Cox, who fought in February in the Ballroom.
With a streak of 21 straight sellouts dating back to February of 2005, only 100 tickets remain for this exciting show, and can be purchased online at www.battleintheballroom.com.
