Oliveiras sounds out warning to Sande

Brazilian Champion Carlos Oliveira (22-5) has sounded out a warning to Kenyan Sande Otieno promising to show the WBC International Champion Sande Otieno that Brazilians have other talents other than soccer. Oliveiras was speaking at his hometown, Sao Vicente after the 30-day weigh-in for their clash next month. The WBC requires all boxers competing for WBC title to submit their medicals and weights 30-days before the fight day..

At the weigh-in supervised by the Brazilian Confederation of Boxing CBB, Oliveiras weight 58 Kilograms. In Nairobi Sande Otieno (15-0) tipped the scales at 56 kilos, one kilos more than the required maximum of 55.388 kg for the super bantamweight category.

Oliveiras is set for the biggest fight of his life when he challenges the Kenyan Champion on 11th July 2008 for the WBC International Super bantamweight title in his backyard, Sao Vicente, Sao Paolo. It will be the first time that Sao Vicente hosts a boxing title of that magnitude.

‘I will show Sande that there is not only soccer in Brazil but also boxing. I am calling out to all the people of Sao Vicente to attend the fight because I will not only be fighting for a title for St. Vincente but for all of Brazil’ said Oliveiras.

Oliveiras who goes by the name Furacao (Hurricane) is regarded as a big puncher with 10 1st round knockouts on his record. He will seek to add one more title to his collection of 11 title belts that he has won in his carreer. The 30 year old orthodox fighter has never fought outside Brazil. He has previously won the Brazilian SB Title, UBC Featherweight Title, South American and WBO Latino Super bantam Title and is the current Mercosur Super Bantamweight champion.

‘We are ready for the fight, we are one kilo above weight and that is good three weeks before the fight. said Sande’s trainer Paul Otieno ‘ we have finished the hard work, the rest is now just primming up for the contest.

‘I will return with the belt, there is no doubt about it’ The soft spoken Sande said ‘I will repeat what we did in Siberia.

He was referring to his voluntary defense of the same title against Russian Marcel Kasimov last November. Sande and his trainer Paul Otieno are scheduled to leave for Brazil in the first week of July.
